KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19, (Agencies): Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad AlSabah have pledged that all security agencies would continue preemptive crackdown campaigns and blows to the terrorist cells in the country.

There will be no lull in the campaign against, and the confrontations with, terrorist groups, the minister vowed in a meeting with the Ministry’s retired and current officials at the Police Officers’ Club in Abu Al-Hassaniya area.

He stressed that his ministry is committed to do all in power to derail the malicious schemes, bring to justice those seeking to destabilize the state or intimidate the people.

In this regard, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled spoke highly of the policemen’s professionalism and high-efficiency, which helped deal repeated serious blows to terrorist groups.

The minister noted that the political leadership has been providing the Interior Ministry with all their needs and with unlimited support to enforce

the law on everybody indi scriminately. The political leadership’s message to the security people is that the rule of law is the top priority of the state, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled said.

He urged fellow citizens and residents to back the security agencies efforts to maintain the security and stability of the state.

The minister underscored the importance of national unity in countering the national security threats.

A Kuwaiti member of DAESH terrorist organization, who was arrested at Kuwait International Airport, was the main source of information that led to the latest discovery of a sleeper cell affiliated to the extremist organization, reports Al-Anba daily quoting a security source.

He said the terrorist cell consists of 12 Kuwaitis; five among them had traveled to Syria and Iraq, while the remaining seven had facilitated their movements.

The source revealed that the concerned security authorities have completed their investigations with the detainees, and referred them to the Public Prosecution for further investigations, adding that the suspects are expected to be referred to judiciary at the end of this month.

Meanwhile, thousands of GCC users of Twitter and other social networking websites expressed their support of the Gulf plan to recall GCC ambassadors from Tehran and Beirut, and deport those who belong to Lebanese Hezbollah or support its activities, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting informed sources.

They said the GCC ministers of Foreign Affairs have been closely following the popular stances in this regard, and will take them into consideration when taking their final decision regarding this matter.

The GCC citizens affirmed that the move to recall the GCC ambassadors is on the right path, suggesting that it should be accompanied with the dismissal of Iranian ambassadors from the GCC countries.

They requested support for the demands of Ahwaz Province to establish an independent state in order to send a message that the GCC policy has shifted from peaceful to confrontational.

In the same context, sources revealed that the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched high-level communications with the officials of some friendly GCC countries to urge the need for opting peace-

ful solutions and avoiding imposing of pressure by taking the step to recall its ambassadors particularly after the concerned Iranian authorities have started realizing the amount of resentment of the Gulf public regarding the hostile and sectarian practices it carries out in many Arab countries.

Terrorism and extremism remain as serious threats to world peace and security, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) chair to the UN Security Council stated.

Speaking, late Tuesday, at the Security Council open debate on “Regional Organization and Challenges of Global Security,” the chair of the OIC group, Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the UN, Ambassador Mansour Ayyad AlOtaibi affirmed that every nation is more or less susceptible to the growing threat of terrorism, adding that a comprehensive and concerted response to terrorism very much needed.

However, Al-Otaibi stressed that there seems to be fundamental differences within the international community on how to handle the issue of terrorism.

On behalf of the OIC, Ambassador AlOtaibi said the organization “is committed to fighting terrorism and countering violent extremism.” To that effect, the OIC works toward delegitimizing violent extremist ideology, developing counter narratives to such extreme ideologies and propaganda, providing appropriate pathways to vulnerable groups, especially youth and women, elevating credible and authentic religious voices that support tolerance and non-violence, as well as countering use of cyberspace including social media by extremist groups.
