‘Kuwait firmly supports Palestinia­ns’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29: Chairman of Kuwait Teachers Associatio­n Walid AlHassawi affirmed that Kuwait always stands firmly in support of the Palestinia­n cause and is against the normalizat­ion of relations with Israel due to which the country will never relent in fighting for rights of Palestinia­ns, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Al-Hassawi said this recently in his welcoming speech during a seminar titled ‘Kuwait supports Al-Aqsa Mosque’ which was organized by Kuwait Teachers Associatio­n. Several non-government­al organizati­ons participat­ed in the seminar.

Former president of the Arab Parliament Union Ali Al-Deqbasi thanked Palestinia­ns particular­ly the children who have been resisting the Israeli aggression.

He declared that their acts of resistance indicate to the whole world the Palestinia­n determinat­ion, as the Palestinia­ns completely refuse compromisi­ng on Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Deqbasi affirmed that the seminar is a way of telling Palestinia­ns that all Kuwaitis are in solid support of them, revealing that he had informed the European Parliament about the suffering of Palestinia­n prisoners of war (POWs) who were detained without trial.

Meanwhile, Coordinato­r General of the seminar Jihad Jeradat revealed his pride of the male and female resistance militants, indicating that their firm stand implies that the Palestinia­ns are not alone.

He assured that everybody supports Palestinia­ns and commend their renewed heroism particular­ly from the women folk, especially after they held a demonstrat­ion all the way to Al-Aqsa Mosque and sparked the fire of resistance in all cities.

Al-Kandari said in statement to KUNA after the conclusion of the 21st meeting of the committee of universiti­es’ presidents called to promote the exchange of experience­s and expertise among the GCC members in the fields of research and training to prepare qualified generation­s in various scientific fields.

Asked about the meeting’s outcome, Al-Kandari explained that the topics discussed aimed at developing higher education institutio­ns in the GCC and increase coordinati­on of scientific and research among universiti­es and higher education institutio­ns.

The meeting also discussed the establishm­ent of an informatio­n base for universiti­es and higher education institutio­ns and national research centers as well as internatio­nal cooperatio­n councils with internatio­nal universiti­es, she added.

Al-Kandari added that joint investment in education and elearning as well as distance learning and other topics that serve education in the GCC countries were discussed during the meeting.

She also stressed the need to recognize through these meetings the nature of challenges that face education and their impact on the future of higher education.

Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University hosted yesterday the 21st meeting of the committee of universiti­es’ presidents at the GCC countries, with participat­ion of Kuwaiti delegation from Kuwait University and PAAET.

Discussed The meeting discussed a number of issues relating to GCC scientific and academic aspects and ways of enhancing the march of higher education in the GCC.

Meanwhile, GCC leaders are interested in education in general and higher education in particular, as they believe that education is the successful way for sustainabl­e developmen­t of the societies, said GCC Secretary General Abdulatif Al-Zayani.

During the 21st meeting of the committee of universiti­es’ presidents Wednesday, Al-Zayani stressed the need to upgrade higher education and its programs to achieve developmen­t in all GCC member states.

He expressed his trust that efforts of universiti­es in GCC countries would lead to further integratio­n and cooperatio­n to serve GCC citizens.

Building human through knowledge is key axis that should be taken into considerat­ion when putting strategic plans for developmen­t, he noted.

Today’s meeting discussed a number of academic and scientific issues that interest universiti­es and institutio­ns of higher education in GCC countries.

The meeting also dealt with the equality among GCC citizens in terms of joining government higher education institutio­ns and joint investment in education as well as resolution­s of the 17th meeting of GCC committee of higher education and scientific research ministers.

Secretary General of the Private Universiti­es Council Dr Habib Abul disclosed that several universiti­es will be establishe­d after an Amiri decree has been issued for that purpose. The universiti­es include Munich Technology University, Canadian Alberta University and others presented to concerned authoritie­s for study, reports AlAnba daily.

Dr Abul explained that 10 private universiti­es are currently operating in Kuwait, of which three were inaugurate­d this year. He congratula­ted the 13th batch of diploma graduates and 8th batch of B.A graduates from the Australian College of Kuwait (ACK). He noted ACK is among the outstandin­g private colleges in Kuwait, as its programs are appropriat­e to the needs of labor market, and more than 600 students have since graduated and joined the labor force.
