Sounding the alarm about the imitation of trademarks, Sheikh Salman Al-Dawood said his society has recently monitored that this phenomenon has been widespread at the local market, making it very difficult for consumers to spot the difference between real and fake commodities.

Therefore, the society’s chairman called for launching a public awareness campaign purposed to caution consumers against the adverse impacts of fake commodities.

Citing fake auto spare parts in particular as a serious example for the imitation of international trademarks, he stressed the significance of overhauling intellectual property rights laws with a view to reining in this grave phenomenon.
