Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it has put forward for bidding a new project for construction of an auxiliary building for Kuwait International Airport with annual accommodation capacity of five million passengers.

DGCA Deputy Director General for Aviation Safety and Air Transport Affairs Eng. Emad AlJlewi said Monday DGCA also plans to build a new runway to cope with steadily traffic growth.

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a workshop organized in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). He noted that the Kuwait Airport traffic would continue growth by 10 percent in the coming years.

For his part, Director of ICAO Middle East Office Mohammad Khonji told KUNA that the high growth rates of the civil aviation sector in the Middle East region, the Gulf countries in particular, would continue in the future.

This sector currently grows by five percent in the Middle East region, one of the highest rates in the world, due to the non-stop expansion in airports and aircraft fleets, Khonji said.
