‘Quake in Aleutian islands’:

-

A 6.2 magnitude quake rattled the remote, sparsely populated Andreanof islands in Alaska’s Aleutian island chain on Monday, the US Geological Survey said.

The earthquake was recorded at 1603 GMT, 57 miles (93 kilometers) north of Atka, Alaska.

Less than 500 people live in the Andreanofs, the vast majority of them in the town of Adak on Adak Island.

The Andreanofs are near the end of the Aleutian chain, which extends westward into the Bering Sea from southern Alaska. (AFP)
