The Billboard 200 chart tallies units from album sales, song sales (10 songs equal one album) and streaming activity (1,500 streams equal one album).
Other new entries this week included “Now 56,” the latest installment of the “Now That’s What I Call Music” compilation featuring artists The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, at No. 4.
Another compilation, “We Love Disney” featuring classic Disney songs covered by artists like Ariana Grande, debuted at No. 8., while the new self-titled album from veteran rockers Def Leppard rounded out the top ten.
On the Digital Songs chart, which measures online song downloads, Adele’s power ballad “Hello” held steady at the top with another 635,000 copies sold. Her much anticipated album, “25,” will be released later this month.
Prince is planning a European tour featuring just his voice and piano, with the 57-year-old pop virtuoso saying he wanted a new challenge, reports said Monday.
Prince — who rarely makes traditional, straightforward announcements on touring — apparently broke the news by inviting a small group of music writers from European newspapers to his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota.
The Purple One posted a picture on Instagram showing him playing a keyboard for a small group with the caption, “European press,” as well as videos of him practicing, although a representative did not immediately return a request for comment.
Spain’s El Pais, in an article Monday datelined Minnesota, said Prince would play in 12 countries starting on Nov 21 in Vienna and finishing on December 22 in Brussels.
Explaining why he wanted to do the tour, Prince was quoted in Spanish as saying: “For starters, it’s a challenge.”
“I don’t want to get bad reviews, but at the same time I don’t want to go back to what I feel safe doing because I’ve done it for 30 years,” he was quoted as saying.
“With the piano it’s more naked, more pure. You see exactly what you get.”
The tour — entitled “Prince Spotlight: Piano and a Microphone” — will include four dates each in Britain and Sweden, El Pais said.
Elton John and Bon Jovi will headline a 24-hour performance this month aimed at urging environmental action ahead of key climate change talks in Paris, organizers said Monday.
The event, spearheaded by former US vice president Al Gore and known as “24 Hours of Reality and Live Earth,” will feature artists, scientists and politicians and will air online Nov 13 and 14.
“Each hour, the broadcast will be punctuated by thought-provoking, knockout appearances from an allstar lineup,” organizers said in a statement.
“The broadcast is aimed at urging world leaders to push for the strongest possible climate agreement at the upcoming UN conference in Paris, and at urging people to take action in their own communities and homes.”
