News in Brief
The Virology Unit of the health ministry’s general laboratories has obtained a 100 percent mark in the annual efficiency test organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the influenza and viral respiratory field, including coronavirus (MERS-CoV), the ministry announced Thursday.
The ministry’s laboratories received 11 samples from the WHO to conduct the required examinations and evaluate the unit’s performance, Health Ministry Undersecretary Dr Khaled Al-Sahlawi, stated to KUNA, adding that the results were sent, afterwards, to the international organization.
All the results matched, completely, the international organization standards, earning the Kuwaiti virology unit the full mark as a result, Al-Sahlawi added. The ministry strives to take part in WHO’s annual efficiency and quality tests, he noted, commending the virology unit staff for their keenness in keeping up the quality of performance. (KUNA) Kuwait gets 2 coveted seats: has earned memberships in UNESCO’s International Education Council and its Legal Committee, announced on Wednesday Kuwait’s permanent member to UNESCO Dr Mishaal Hayat.
Kuwait was able to get the only seat in the Int’l Education Council set aside for the Arab group of nations attending the 38th UNESCO general conference meetings in Paris, after intense competition from other seekers of this much coveted seat, said Dr Hayat, in a statement to KUNA.
Earning that seat will avail Kuwait to attract top international experts in education who might help in upgrading and streamlining education in Kuwait, he said.
As for the seat in the Legal Council, he said it was the first time Kuwait had it, noting that it would help Kuwaiti officials to UNESCO to learn more about the intricate legal system of this monumental organization.
Kuwait had snatched earlier the position of vice-president of the UNESCO general conference in the first day of the conference. (KUNA)
