2 cops found dead:

The bodies of two policemen who had disappeared over the weekend have been found in Mexico’s Gulf coast state of Veracruz.

The state prosecutors’ office said Wednesday the bodies were found dumped in a rural area near the port of Veracruz. It did not specify the cause of death.

The two officers were reported missing Saturday.

They were assigned to traffic duties, and local media reported they had acted as escorts for state officials.

The office identified the policemen as Marcos Pena Sobrevilla and Eduardo Abrego Flores.

Veracruz has been marked by drug gang turf battles and the killings of journalists in recent years. (AP)
