Nigerian Cabinet sworn in:
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari swore in a Cabinet on Wednesday that puts a woman investment banker in charge of finance as Africa’s biggest economy is squeezed by halved petroleum prices.
Many have criticized the delay in appointing a Cabinet since Buhari was elected in March and inaugurated at the end of May.
Buhari’s choice of portfolios for 25 Cabinet and 11 junior ministers was praised as a “strategically put together team” by one analyst while another criticized “a fairly thin bench” on the economic side.
Kemi Adeosun, 48, an unexpected choice for finance minister, is known for sharing Buhari’s zero-tolerance for corruption. She has won praise for turning around the finances of southwestern Ogun state, where she was the financial commissioner. (AP)
