B’desh looking to improve in T20s at Zimbabwe expense

‘Our record doesn’t speak in our favor’

DHAKA, Bangladesh, Nov 12, (AP): Bangladesh will use the two-match Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe starting on Friday to find its best combination for the Asia Cup and World Twenty20.

The Asia Cup will be a T20 format in Bangladesh in February, just before the World T20 in India in March.

Given Bangladesh’s lackluster performance in the shortest format of cricket, captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said the series with Zimbabwe would be their best opportunity to correct mistakes.

“Honestly, we are not a good T20 team, our record in this format doesn’t speak in our favor,” Mortaza said on Thursday.

Bangladesh has played 44 T20s and won just 12. This year, it has played only three, beating Pakistan in one and losing two to South Africa.

Mortaza said they have plenty of confidence to carry into the series after whitewashing Zimbabwe in three one-day internationals.

At the same time, he warned his side about a backlash from Zimbabwe.
