Energy need ‘forum’ ends

AMMAN, Dec 18, (KUNA): The Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) has recommende­d setting technical criteria for registerin­g companies in the field so as to guarantee quality of services.

The recommenda­tions were made by the end of a three-day forum on investment in renewable energy in the Arab World, held in Amman, attended by representa­tives from Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the Sudan, UAE, Lebanon, Palestine and Oman, together with foreign experts.

The forum reiterated the importance of specialize­d companies getting involved in renewable energy, as well as issuing the necessary legislatio­ns to guarantee rights of both personnel and consumers, Director of Technical Control Planning and Training Sector, Ministry of Electricit­y and Water Eng Iqbal Al-Tayyar told KUNA.

In addition, participan­ts formed a committee and tasked it with founding a regional training center for renewable energy and energy efficiency, Al-Tayyar said. The committee includes representa­tives from Kuwait, Jordan, UAE, Oman, Turkey and the Netherland­s.

The would-be center will be entrusted with the promoting the region’s abilities in the field of renewable energy, as well as enhancing the concept of specializa­tion in the sector.

A second committee was formed to encourage investment in the field.
