KUWAIT CITY, Dec 19, (KUNA): Kuwait has made significant strides in promoting the rights of people with disabilities, Chairwoman of the Saudi Society for Parents with Disabilities Princess Latifa AlSaud said on Saturday.
After an inter-Arab meeting called for broader rights for females with visual impairment on Thursday, organized by the Institute of Female Development and Peace, Princess Latifa stressed the need of supporting visually impaired females.
Moreover, Chairwoman of Kuwait Institute of Female Development and Peace Kawthar Al-Jouan, said that the meeting shed light on some of the common social obstacles that people with impaired vision face. These people deal with tremendous difficulties in a range of issues from education to parenthood, she noted.
The institute strives to protect the rights of those with visual impairment, Al-Jouan asserted. However, she underscored these efforts would be fruitful only with support from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor.
Al-Jouan thanked Arab partners who participated in the meeting, all of whom contributed with research papers and suggestions in a bid to bolster the rights of visually disabled people.
The Institute of Female Development and Peace looks to implement these suggestion to bring the plight of visually impaired females to the forefront of prioritized issues, she said.
Al-Jouan also revealed plans for establishing a comprehensive Arab database that would store details of all those who are visually impaired. Through this database, the institute will initiate vocational programs for the visually disabled, which would help propel them into their respective careers, the Chairwoman of Kuwait Institute of Female Development and Peace added.
She also called for more inter-Arab cooperation to facilitate educational needs of the visually impaired, saying the institute will vigorously follow the progress of these plans.
