Vatrano & Bergeron lead Bruins past Penguins 6-2

Little scores two as Jets top Rangers

PITTSBURGH, Dec 19, (AP): Frank Vatrano scored three goals for his first career hat trick and Patrice Bergeron scored twice as the Boston Bruins beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 Friday night to sweep the teams’ home-andaway series.

Loui Eriksson also scored for Boston, which is 4-0-1 in its past five games, 10-1-3 in its past 14 games. Ryan Spooner added three assists and Brad Marchand added two.

Conor Sheary Vatrano’s college teammate at UMass got his first two NHL points with a goal and an assist, and Trevor Daley scored his first goal with the Penguins, who are 0-3 since Mike Sullivan replaced Mike Johnston as the team’s head coach last weekend.

Overall, Pittsburgh has lost four in a row (0-3-1) and six of its past seven to sit 12th in the Eastern Conference.

Sidney Crosby had two assists for the Penguins to break a three-game pointscori­ng drought.

His line with wingers Andrew Ladd and Wheeler combined for nine points after only recording four points as a line over the past four games.

J.T. Miller and Dan Boyle scored the Rangers.

Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck picked up his fifth win in seven starts with a 26-save effort. Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves and fell to 15-8-3 on the year.

Panthers 2, Hurricanes 0 In Raleigh, North Carolina, Roberto Luongo made 24 saves and Willie Mitchell scored 4:09 into the third period as Florida beat Carolina for its third straight win.

Mitchell got his first goal of the season on a slap shot to put Florida up 1-0. He beat goalie Cam Ward to the glove side, and Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov picked up assists. It was just the 34th goal for Mitchell in 894 NHL games.

Reilly Smith added an empty-net goal with 21 seconds left. Smith has scored in four straight games.

The Panthers have outscored opponents 12-2 during their three-game streak and have beaten Carolina five straight times, including 4-1 in the teams’ first meeting Oct 13.
