In a statement, Assistant Undersecretary of Correctional Facilities and Provisions Implementation Major General Khaled Al-Deen said that the event is crucial to generating awareness on how to care for inmates and to assimilate them into society.

It is imperative that the country’s ministries cooperate to ensure a better future for inmates, Al-Deen said.

The ongoing event consists of an exhibition that displays products made by inmates. The high-quality products are an assortment of furniture and decor including ships, doors and boxes, he added.

The aim of the exhibition is to acknowledge inmate contributions and showcase their efforts while serving their prison terms, Al-Deen said.

He also praised various institutions of reform for their role in safeguarding human rights, enabling the society to assimilate inmates in a way that allows them to contribute to prosperity and development.

Moreover, Director General of Reform Institutions Major General Ibrahim Al-Issa said that Kuwait has always protected the rights of inmates, as the Ministry of Interior has always prioritized the issue.

This year’s GCC Unified Inmates Week is a four-day worth of awareness programs as well as cultural, religious and social seminars that will help shed light on the plight of inmates.

Deputy Director General of the Public Authority of Sports Dr Humoud Fulaiteh said that this event is instrumental to ensuring a better future for inmates.

The Ministry of Awqaf representative Awatif Al-Salman revealed that the Ministries of Awqaf and Interior are collaborating for a series of projects to help better serve inmates.

The Unified GCC Inmates Week is to conclude proceedings on Dec 23. (KUNA)
