Fiber-optic networks Phase-2 begins
Phase two of distributing fiber opticoperated Internet to 34 areas in the country has begun, Minister of Communications and of State for Municipal Affairs Essa Al-Kandari said on Monday.
In a speech inaugurating the distribution, he said that the Ministry is working in accordance to a pre-set timeframe, adding that the Ministry will be replacing all traditional landline networks with these fiber optic-operated systems.
The new systems will provide high quality phone services and high speed Internet, adding the new systems will provide new service such as digital TV cable.

Al-Matouq explained that the meeting stressed the importance of initiating events and gatherings that would help shed light on Islam’s true image, one that is void of terrorism and violence.
The UN Secretary General thanked the UAE leadership for supporting the forum, which was organized to showcase some of humanity’s brighter attributes. Moreover, Al-Matouq addressed the prevalence of the fatwa, religious edicts that often incite youth into committing acts that are unreflective of Islam’s true nature, he said. This leaves leaders of the Muslim faith with no choice but to cooperate and fight the scourge of terrorism, Al-Matouq added.
Islam’s image has been marred by extreme ideologies that do not represent the faith in any way, Al-Matouq said. The forum was put together to rectify this and showcase the true benevolent face of Islam, he added.
Meanwhile, the 22nd Waqf Forum will kick off on Dec 27 under the patronage of His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Various official and private bodies will take part, together with Waqfs specialists, from Kuwait and abroad, the Kuwait Public Awqaf Foundation (KPAF) said on Monday.
The two-day forum will seek to reiterate the KPAF’s role, prompted by its message, namely, calling for and managing Waqfs, according to religious regulations, through institutional work, as a tool to promote the Kuwaiti society and a model to be followed, here and abroad, said Minister of Justice and Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sanea in the statement.
He added that the Forum would see the official launch of the automatic system to manage Waqfs, that actually starts operation as of Jan 1.

Newly residential areas that are still lacking phone service will have a priority to have these new network installed.
He called on citizens and residents to cooperate with the Ministry during the installation process.
Meanwhile, “Huawei Technologies” CEO Trevor Liu said his company, which is supervising the project, is able to provide the Ministry with all needed technologies and equipment to complete this project as soon as possible.
Phase Two of the project will include 34 residnetail areas: Mishref, Bayan, Midan Hawally, Sabah AlSalem, Al-Adan and Al-Qusoor, to name a few. (KUNA)

Fatwas
In addition, a publication of judicial rulings and fatwas on Kuwaiti Waqfs will be issued on the sidelines of the Forum, to function as a reference for jurists in Arab and Muslim countries.
The theme of the 22nd Waqf Forum is “managing waqfs — integration and entrepreneurship.” During the forum, the KPAF will review its experience in managing Waqfs, besides similar ones from countries concerned with charity work, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Algeria, Malaysia and Australia, the minister noted.
Minister Al-Sanea thanked His Highness the Deputy Amir and the Crown Prince for his generous patronage of the event, wishing Kuwait further progress and prosperity under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Earlier, Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sane’ on Sunday announced the names of a galaxy of winners of the 2015 Al-Hafedh competition for Holy Quran reciting and memorizing.
“A total of 200, out of 1,158 competitors, males and females from different age categories, have won awards of the 19th edition of the competition this year,” he told a press conference at Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation in the presence of the Foundation’s Acting Secretary General Ra’ed Al-Kharafi.
“The winners include 74 males, 79 females, as well as 44 males and females with special needs, and three from correctional facilities,” the minister revealed.
Al-Sane’ also announced the names of institutions what were awarded for promoting Quranic and Islamic Sharia sciences. The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs won the shield of excellence, Al-Mutamayyezin charity — the golden shield, Bayader Al Salam Society (of women) — the silver shield, and the heritage restoration society (Turath) — the bronze shield, he said.
The minister thanked His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his kind patronage of the competition and his keenness on raising the sons of Kuwait on learning the Holy Quran and the correct teachings of Noble Islam away from extremism.
He also appreciated the efforts the organizers of the competition, the competitors and their parents, and the arbiters.
