The Organizati­on of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) praised the Paris Agreement on the reduction of climate change, which was reached in the French capital during the 21st Conference of Parties of the (UNFCCC) on Dec 12.

The agreement would be “global and ambitious” once it enters into force following 55 countries’ approval, OAPEC’s Council of Ministers said in a press statement Sunday in conclusion of its 95th meeting in the Egyptian capital, noting that the new agreement is slated to replace the Kyoto Protocol by 2020.

Meanwhile, the council indicated that according to Article (13) of OAPEC’s statute; Kuwait is to head the next OAPEC’s conference, adding that the 2016 conference would be held in Cairo.

Today’s meeting reviewed the 23rd forum on oil and gas industry foundation­s and the studies that have been completed by the general secretaria­t in this regard during 2015 period, said the statement.

The meeting also reviewed the workflow in the databank and ways to improve its activities, in addition to events that have been organized or participat­ed by the general secretaria­t in this regard during the 2015 period,

The council also reviewed that annual report which highlighte­d the activities of OAPEC-affiliated companies during the 2014 to first-half of 2015 period, in addition to outcomes of the 44th annual coordinati­ng meeting of these companies, which was held in Cairo last October.

The council has decided to extend Iraq’s supervisio­n of the Arab oil training institute for another year beginning from January 2016, the statement said, adding that the council has also rehired the Kuwaiti-based Al-Osaimi and Partners office as the Organizati­on’s auditor.

Kuwait took part in the meeting with a delegation headed by Assistant Undersecre­tary of the Ministry of Oil Sheikh Talal Nasser Al-Athbi AlSabah. (KUNA)
