‘Celebration of Indian Culture’ opens at National Library bldg
Event features rich display of Indian art, fashion

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 21: The National Library of Kuwait in association with the Indian Embassy today inaugurated the ‘Celebration of Indian Culture’ at the National Library building, in down-town Kuwait City.
The three-day event which features a rich display of Indian art, fashion, embroidery, handicraft and Indian culture, was inaugurated by Kamel Al-Abduljalil, General Manager of the National Library of Kuwait and HE Sunil Jain, Ambassador of India to Kuwait.
Speaking at the event, Abduljalil said, “We shall never forget the role played by the historical leader Mahatma Gandhi (India’s father of the nation).”
He called him the great example of sacrifices, and the man who has shown courage in leading India to its independence from the British rule.
He went on to say, “The event introduces the Indian civilization and culture. We wish you a magnificent, meaningful and useful celebration where the Indian community will enrich the culture. We love India,” he said.
The inauguration was attended by diplomats from various countries, Kuwaiti dignitaries and invitees, in addition to a large number of school students.
Speaking on the occasion, the Indian envoy touched upon a ‘few dimensions’ of IndiaKuwait relationship such as trade, common currency, art and culture and Diwaniya. “These are some of the dimensions that have a strong bond between India and Kuwait, said Jain.
The event consists of a rich display of Indian art, fashion, embroidery, handicraft and Indian culture. Various Indian stalls are decorated with rich dresses, embroidery, manuscripts, handicrafts, cultural banners, dance posters and publicity materials of Incredible India. Various paintings on India and its culture are also on display.
Another attraction at the event will be the film screenings of documentaries such as Incredible India, Islamic monuments etc and live Indian Cultural Music. A variety of Indian artifacts are available for sale at the stall for discounted price.
Illustrating the cultural diversity of India, the Indian Embassy has handed over to the Kuwait Library 40 books on Indian history, arts and culture, 20 children’s books and 18 CDs on documentaries of India in an effort to spread information about India as one of the most preferred tourist destination.
The ‘Indian Culture’ celebration will continue until Wednesday, Dec 23, 2015 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The entry is free and open to all residents and visitors to Kuwait.
The National Library is located opposite the Kuwait National Museum on Arabian Gulf Street.
