Aga edges Vicky to lift 1st FTBK Tournament title

Mousa, Liza & JR grab runners-up positions

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 21: Banking on his steady and consistent form, diminutive Aga Cuadrazal edged Vicky Navarro as he came back strong in the eighth and deciding game to lift the title of the 2015 1st FTBK Individual Bowling Tournament held at the Cozmo Entertainm­ent bowling lanes in Salmiya. Grabbing the other runner up positions in this event organized by the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers-Kuwait under the stewardshi­p of current Chairperso­n Nenita Alinea were Mousa Abdullah, Liza Catapia, JR Sabado, Edwin Latoja and Chit Mariano.

Advancing to the 8-game series after completing the required 12 sets (2 games per set) were Aga Cuadrazal who grabbed the men high series award with 4600 pin falls followed by the ladies side high series award winner Chit Mariano with 4580 pin falls together with Mousa Abdullah-4555, Liza Catapia-4497, Vicky Navarro-4446, Faie Reyel-4413, Elvie Sotio-4381, Lito Igot-4313, Bong Bermillo-4295, Paul Arcayan-4291, Rudy Zablan-4241, Emma Gatus-4240, JR Sabado-4239, Alfred Avila-4223, Edwin Latoja-4099 and Ritz Vidana-4099. High Game Award went to Faie Reyel who submitted a superb 272 score.

Up on top of the leader board after the first two games of the 8 game series finals was Aga Cuadrazal who posted a 2-game tally of 388 (187, 201) pin falls. Vicky Navarro was a close second at this point with 382 from her game scores of 186 and 196 followed by the rest of the early pacesetter­s that included Edwin Latoja-381, JR Sabado-380, Chit Mariano-380, Mousa Abdullah-358 and Faie Reyel-353. In the next two games, three bowlers battled it out for the number one position and emerging as the new leader was JR Sabado who submitted 196 and 201 in games 3 and 4 which brought his 4-game total score to 776 pin falls. Just a single pin fall away in second with 775 was Edwin Latoja with erstwhile leader Aga Cuadrazal drifting back to third and also just 2 pin falls down with 774. At the halfway mark of the competitio­n, the other contenders were Chit Mariano-770, Vicky Navarro-752, Faie Reyel-733, Mousa Abdullah-723 and Elvie Sotio-705.

On the third 2-game block, Aga Cuadrazal with 1178 made his way back to the top of the standings after rolling a 226 and 177 in games 5 and 6. Chit Mariano on the other hand moved up to second as her 188 and 218 scores gave her 6-game tally of 1176 pin falls. Also improving their positions with only two games remaining were Mousa Abdullah and Vicky Navarro with 1162 and 1155 respective­ly. Going to the final 2-game block of the 8-game series event, still in contention were JR Sabado-1133, Edwin Latoja-1104, Faie Reyel-1083, Paul Arcayan-1082 and Liza Catapia-1075.

Meanwhile, Aga Cuadrazal who dropped back to second remains a serious threat just 3 marks off the leader with 1351 while equally in strong contention were Mousa Abdullah-1330, Chit Mariano-1318, Liza Catapia-1308, Edwin Latoja-1306 and JR Sabado-1293. In game 8, Aga Cuadrazal slowly but surely diminished the 29 pin falls lead of Vicky Navarro who started missing easy spares. The nail biting tenth frame saw Aga Cuadrazal coolly converting a spare which was all he needed to clinch the title. Through his final game score of 200 and a total 8-game series score of 1551, Aga Cuadrazal bagged the title and top prize at stake. Vicky Navarro who settled for the first runner up post garnered a total score of 1548 followed by the rest of the top 7 namely, Mousa Abdullah-1530, Liza Catapia-1499, JR Sabado-1499, Edwin Latoja-1492 and Chit Mariano-1490.
