From the outset, a lot of pressure had been put on the Crowne Plaza ladies from Farwaniya with a strong serving game and an almost flawless performance. The Farwaniya ladies, on the other hand, attempted to fight back and make it a close game. The Holiday Inn Salmiya squad gave everything to keep the ball in play with some big saves but Crowne Plaza proved too strong and eventually took the lead 18-16 as Salmiya called a timeout.
In the middle of the first set, the Salmiya girls kept their rhythm high, but started to struggle in the sequels. At this important stage of the set, however, Marina and Rona made the difference with their laser-shot-like smashes to narrow their deficit. And most of all, Crowne Plaza’s top star Mae, best player of the game, outclassed her opponents with an unbelievable precision in her smashes, closing the first set at 25-16.
In the second set Plaza started to struggle a little bit in the beginning, but picked up speed as Mae and Rica found their rhythm. The Farwaniya based hotel overpowered the Holiday Inn Salmiya and scored eleven points in a row. Holiday Inn tried to fight their way back into the game, but Plaza responded with a display of real offensive power to end the game 25-18 with Mae hitting in the kill in the final seconds.
Meanwhile, in the men’s inter-hotel basketball game, Mendoza, Capuloni and Edmar had 19, 16 and 12 points apiece as Jumeirah Hotel extended their leadership of the league, rallying from behind in the second quarter to seal the 78-69 win against Crowne Plaza.
