Amir congratula­tes Al-Khamis poll win

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 21, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Saturday sent a cable of congratula­tions to Ali Abdullah Al-Khamis who won a parliament­ary seat in the by-elections of the Third Constituen­cy.

His Highness the Amir wished the new member of the National Assembly success in serving the national interests of the dear homeland, according to the cable released by the Amiri Diwan Saturday tonight.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah have also sent similar cables to Al-Khamis to express their best wishes for him.

The National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim also sent a cable of congratula­tions to Al-Khamis after winning Third Constituen­cy by-elections, held last night.

In his cable, Al-Ghanim expressed his best wishes to Al-Khamis and praised voters for their efforts and contributi­on to ensure success of the democratic process.

Chairman of the central commission of the Third Constituen­cy by-elections for 2016 Justice Hamad Al-Hadhram announced that Ali Abdullah Al-Khamis won a seat in the National Assembly for the 14th legislativ­e term.

Al-Khamis, with a total of 7,311 votes, had a big lead over other 33 hopefuls, Justice Al-Hadhram noted in a press conference late Saturday night.

The constituen­cy has a total of 81,218 eligible voters.

Born in 1976, Al-Khamis has a Bachelor of Laws from Cairo University and is member of Kuwait Lawyers Associatio­n.

He served as board chairman of

Al-Yarmouk cooperativ­e society in 2010 and deputy chairman of the National Union of Kuwait Students -- Cairo branch in 2001.

Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim declared the seat of the third constituen­cy vacant after the passing away of late MP Nabil AlFadhel on Jan 12.
