Security employees help cut ‘crime rate’ by 9 pct in 2015
Cyber crimes rise
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 21: Based on instructions from the Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khalid, and Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lieutenant General Suleiman Al-Fahd, security employees intensified their efforts to control crimes, and helped reduce crime rate by 9 percent in 2015 compared to 2014.
Public Relations and Security Media Department at the Ministry of Interior said the crime rate in 2015 was less than that of 2014 due to the diligent efforts of patrolmen distributed across the country and security checkpoints, besides high-tech technology and gadgets used in pursuing criminal suspects and other law violators.
It also mentioned support of the security media department in spreading awareness through various media outlets, clarifying facts, and encouraging citizens and expatriates to abide by the country’s rules and regulations, as well as public morals. It noted media professionalism contributed to reduce the crime rate in society amid promoting security awareness and the sense of responsibility.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations and Security Information Department disclosed that narcotic crimes have gone down by 17 percent and the rate of drug addiction has dropped by 15 percent, in addition to 28 percent decline in the cases registered against anonymous but cyber crimes have increased by 20 percent, noting the latter is relatively new.
It also said money laundering cases has reduced by 22 percent and the rate of libel has declined by 18 percent, while murder, attempted murder and related severe injuries have dwindled by 11 percent.
Financial related cases have reduced by 9 percent, and blackmail by 14 percent, manslaughter by 2 percent and public interest crime cases 1.5 percent.
Statistics revealed that 24,453 cases were registered in 2015, which is 9 percent lower than 2014 when a total 26,894 crime cases were recorded, which is a positive development. The resolved cases with known perpetrators were 17,511 compared to 17,207 cases in 2014, showing about 72 percent increase, and crimes committed by anonymous suspects in 2015 stood at 6,942 as against 9,687 in 2014, representing 28 percent decrease.
