LOS ANGELES, Feb 21, (Agencies): Amy Adams will star in “Sharp Objects”, the television adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s debut novel, Variety has confirmed. She has also signed on to exec produce the potential series.

Jean-Marc Vallee (“Dallas Buyers Club”, “Wild”) has been tapped to direct the drama, which has Marti Noxon on board as showrunner and writer, alongside Flynn who’s attached as a writer and exec producer. Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum and Charles Layton are also exec producers. Entertainment One is the studio.

Insiders tell Variety that eOne has taken the project out on multiple pitch meetings this week to cable networks and streaming platforms.

“Sharp Objects” follows a reporter (played by Adams) who has to cover the murder of two preteen girls in her hometown following a brief stint in a psych hospital.

The project marks Adams’ first starring role for the small screen, though before shooting up to super-stardom, the Golden Globe-winning and Oscarnominated actress had small roles on “The Office”, “Smallville” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. She is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment.

For Vallee, the series will follow another TV project for the director, who’s directing HBO’s “Big Little Lies”, which stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley. Noxon, who penned the pilot script based on Flynn’s novel, is highly in demand lately as the co-creator of Lifetime’s critically acclaimed “UnReal” and creator of Bravo’s “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”.

Flynn’s other novel “Gone Girl” was of course adapted for a feature, which starred Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck.

“Sharp Objects” will also be co-exec produced by Nathan Ross, and at Blumhouse, the project is being overseen by head of TV Jessica Rhoades.

Tony Danza is returning to television with a new family sitcom, plus NBC’s fourth show of Dick Wolf’s “Chicago” franchise, “Chicago Law,” has cast its first star, in today’s TV news roundup ...

Philip Winchester

is set to star in NBC’s lastest “Chicago” franchise spin-off, “Chicago Law,” Variety has confirmed.

Winchester last starred on the network’s short-lived drama “The Player,” which had its episode count trimmed early on this season. While NBC never announced an official cancellation for the action show, which also starred Wesley Snipes, Winchester’s casting in “Chicago Law” seals the deal. Deadline first reported Winchester’s casting, which marks the first role set for legal drama.

Tony Danza is returning to TV. The “Taxi” and “Who’s the Boss” alum has been cast in NBC’s family sitcom pilot “Sebastian.”

Hailing from Greg Garcia, the multicam comedy stars comedian Sebastian Maniscalco who’s old-school values, instilled by his opinionated father played by Danza, are put to the test by his wife, her family and the modern world. The role in “Sebastian” will be Danza first multi-cam role in nearly twenty years.

Let the love-of-war begin. “UnReal” has cast two more contestants for the upcoming second season of Lifetime’s critically acclaimed dramedy, Variety has learned exclusively.

Meagan Tandy and Kim Matula have been set as series regulars who will play two of the ladies vying for the heart of Darius Hill (BJ Britt), the new suitor of “UnReal’s” fictional dating show “Everlasting”.

Tandy (“Teen Wolf”, “Survivor’s Remorse”) will play Chantal, a Southern debutante who’s elegant, beautiful, polished and believes she’s destined to marry Hill, after the tragic loss of her fiance.

Matula — who’s best known for her starring role as Hope Logan on “The Bold and the Beautiful” — will portray Tiffany, a hot, smart and rich all — American girl who’s the daughter of a professional football team owner. She hopes that “Everlasting” will help her step out of her father’s shadow.

The two actresses join previously announced cast members Denee Benton and Monica Barbaro who will both play other “Everlasting” contestants, and Michael Rady who’ll play a filmmaker and Gentry White who will take on the role of Darius’ cousin.
