QRCS, SAMS sign deal to alleviate Syrians’ sufferings
GCC cultural committee meets
DOHA, March 27, (KUNA): Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) signed on Saturday a cooperation deal seeking to alleviate Syrians’ suffering inside or outside Syria.
The deal, signed at the conclusion of the first international conference on Syrians, aims to study future projects and mechanisms of implementing them to be in favor of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons (IDP).
Under the agreement, the two sides can exchange expertise, information, data, visits and statistics pertaining to follow up mutual action and cooperation on building capabilities and skills, and participation in workshops.
SAMS and Syrian expatriate medical association also inked an agreement on promoting mutual cooperation in healthcare to serve Syrian refugees and IDPs.
Meanwhile, the last day of the conference discussed some key topics like healthcare for Syrian refugees and challenges facing them.
The conference reviewed several issues, including ability to face challenges of Syrian refugees.
At the conclusion of the conference, conferees issued some recommendations like moving from medical relief to development, and rebuilding, and flexibility of local Syrian societies through providing sustainable healthcare.
Recommendations stressed the necessity of shedding light on cases of failure and success, and determining main players in the transition process and rehabilitation of Syrians.
Some 260 representatives from several medical societies and civil society organizations took part in the three-day conference co-organized by QRCS and SAMS.

RIYADH: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)’s General Cultural Committee discussed on Sunday at its 43rd meeting some topics that interest mutual affairs of member states.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Mohammad Abdel-Khaliq, a committee member and a senior at Kuwait’s National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, told KUNA in a statement that the committee deals with a number of key cultural topics, including the program of enhancing the Gulf identity.
During the two-day meeting, conferees focus on steps and developments on regulations of the joint cultural action, in addition to executive procedures on organizing cultural activities and their plans for 2016/2017, he said.
The meeting is expected also to discuss some other topics in this regard.
