and Catherine White on the viola were simply outstanding. The audience were wowed with musical numbers including David Bowie’s Space Oddity, Chopin’s Nocturne in E minor and The way we were by Marvin Hamlisch. The variety in musical genre was a real highlight and suited each and every person’s individual preferences.
The purpose of the event, apart from showcasing the wonderful array of musical talent at Kuwait English School, was to raise awareness and funds for children in crisis around the world. In doing so the audience were reminded to consider the impacts of conflicts and natural disasters on young people and to reflect on what we can do to help.
Dr Soumaya Al Azem, special guest of Mrs Rhoda Muhmood, who helps deliver help to children in need stated “with this music you are giving everything to those children who are deprived” and that “your contribution can help to bring back a smile”.
Mrs Rhoda Muhmood, School Director, ended proceedings by asking parents to “appreciate the gift of music given to you by your children” and that the evening was “well beyond (her) expectations”.
The music department, namely Stephen Tarry, Michael Hassan, Mrs Donna Clarke, James White, Preslav Petkov and Dragan Markovic, must be congratulated on their ongoing efforts in promoting music at KES and harnessing such talent.
