Gulf Programmin­g Contest takes place in Kuwait for the first time

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) hosted the Sixth Gulf Programmin­g Contest which took place on March 23 and 24 on its campus. The competitio­n, which was sponsored by Boubyan Bank and Zain and organized by the Computer Science Department at GUST, took place in Kuwait for the first time.

Some photos from the event display their abilities in programmin­g and problem solving. The teams were given ten programmin­g problems to solve using one PC only during a five hour period. The team Travelling Salesmen from Khalifa University of UAE was selected to represent their university at the ACM regional and world programmin­g contests in 2017. This competitio­n is considered the world’s largest global competitiv­e, educative, and scientific in computer programing that attracts a growing number of the best IT students from around the world.

Dr Tahir Ali, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and coach of the GUST team, said “I am so proud of our students for participat­ing in such a high profile and competitiv­e event. I also commend them for their hospitalit­y and sportsmans­hip, and hope that they do better next year.”

GPC 2016 in Kuwait hosted 31 teams from 11 universiti­es from across the Gulf Region. Next year’s competitio­n is expected to take place at the same time at March 2017. Further informatio­n about the competitio­n can be found on gpc2016.gust.edu.kw
