Palestine lauds Kuwait’s efforts for reconstructing the Gaza Strip
UAB elects Sheikh Mohammad Al-Jarrah as new chief
GAZA, April 1, (KUNA): The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) has praised Kuwait’s continued support to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, particularly the reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.
In the name of President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, the PNA expresses most gratitude to His Highness the Amir, government, and people of Kuwait for their generous grant to those affected by the Israeli war on Gaza, Minister of Housing and Public Works Mufeed Al-Hasaynah said in a press conference.
Al-Hasaynah also valued the efforts exerted by Marwan AlGhanem, Arab Regional Director in the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), in light of the grant agreement, worth $200 million, signed between KFAED and the PNA to support reconstruction efforts in Gaza, adding that his government will allocate $75 million of the Kuwait grant for the Gaza Strip residents.
Meanwhile, the Union of Arab Banks (UAB) announced Thursday the election of Kuwait’s Sheikh Mohammad Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah as the new Chairman of the Board for the next three years.
The Union’s board of directors has elected Sheikh Mohammad Al-Jarrah, who is also Chief of Kuwait International Bank (KIB), during its 101 session, held in the Lebanese capital, Wissam Fattouh, UAB’s SecretaryGeneral, told KUNA.
The KIB chief was chosen due to his significant contributions in boosting and enhancing the banking sector and system in the Arab region, Fattouh added.
In 2015, Sheikh Mohammad AlJarrah was named “GCC Chairman of the Year” by World Finance, a London-based premier global banking and finance journal, due to his significant record of accomplishments throughout the years at various renowned financial institutions.
WASHINGTON: Arab States’ embassies in Canada took part in “the National Arab Day Celebration,” hosted by Carleton University, to enhance Arab cultural relations with the Canadian society.
The event is co-hosted by Global Affairs Canada to explore the rich heritage and culture of the Arab world through history, art, literature and food, a statement issued by the university said. Kuwaiti Ambassador to Canada
Abdel Hamid Al-Failakawi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the embassy participated in the event with a pavilion that included publications about Kuwait’s cultural heritage and models of its culture.
He added “the event is an opportunity to promote various aspects of relations and exchange of cultures between the diplomatic missions as well as with the Canadian society.”
The event was inaugurated, on Wednesday, by Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Bin Jassim Al Thani, with an official welcome from Carleton President Roseann
O’Reilly Runte and a dance presentation.
Modern standard Arabic is taught at Carleton University.
