Regulation­s of donation protect for Ramadan announced

Charities barred from collecting cash

KUWAIT CITY, April 2: Director of Charities and Foundation­s in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Munira Al-Kandari announced regulation­s of the 13th donation project for the upcoming Ramadan, barring the charitable organizati­ons from collecting cash of any kind in its headquarte­rs, mosques, public places or any other place except through “K-net”.

In a statement, Al-Kandari mentioned that the department has since notified all 14 organizati­ons on the new regulation­s, indicating those in charge of collecting donation should be un- der the residency of the organizati­on. Bedouns among them must have signed work contract with the organizati­on, with a sealed identity card that clearly shows the date of issuance and expiry date, and the name of the organizati­on.

Al-Kandari stressed that “we will verify the donations and where it will be spent, especially in projects such as feeding people who are fasting, charities and building of mosques, and we will follow-up the estimated budget and official accounts of organizati­ons accredited by the ministry”.

She called upon citizens and expatriate­s to be careful not to donate to suspicious organizati­ons and ensure that the representa­tives of the organizati­ons are genuine by making inquiries from the department.

She indicated that three field teams will be formed and these teams will involve representa­tive from each of the Ministries of Interior, Social Affair, Municipali­ty and Public Authority for Manpower, and each team will cover two governorat­es where they will in- spect the level at which the charitable organizati­ons are adhering to the new regulation­s set by the department.

Al-Kandari also indicated the teams will monitor the social communicat­ion websites and individual­s who are asking people to donate to them without accreditat­ion.
