KUWAIT CITY, April 2: The General Department of Criminal Evidences of Ministry of Interior received a letter of appreciation from the American embassy in recognition of its role in the discovery of security loopholes in the Syrian passports, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed security sources.

They said the American Embassy believed this security gap could have been exploited by terrorists to carry out terrorist operations, adding that the embassy has informed airports in USA and Europe to be alert when dealing with suspicious Syrian passports in order to prevent any extremist groups from using them. The sources said the American embassy commended Kuwait’s securitymen and praised the technology they use to maintain the security of the country and con- tribute to global security.

They revealed that Kuwait had stopped a number of Syrians from entering the country using suspicious passports.

Meanwhile, a high-level security delegation headed by Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Suleiman Al-Fahad will visit the United States of American mid-April to attend a conference on fighting against drug trafficking, reports Al-Rai daily.

This step by the USA is being described as “an international coalition against drug trafficking” and is aimed to drain any likely financing sources to terrorism. According to security sources, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Hamad Al-Khalid Al-Sabah gave his approval and support to the delegation to participate in this conference because it would represent a strong start for a comprehensive relentless war against drug trafficking in the country. Kuwait can also use this opportunity to take advantage of the experiences, plans and mechanisms adopted by the USA to face this phenomenon which has severe negative impacts on the society.

The sources said the security delegation will include a number of assistant undersecretaries of Ministry of Interior such as Assistant Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs Major General Sheikh Ahmad al-Khalifa who will work on purchasing whatever is needed by the ministry and its securitymen in carrying out their tasks in this regard in the most efficient manner.
