11th Urinary Tract Surgery Conference kicks off

Bid to improve skills of Kuwaiti doctors

KUWAIT CITY, April 3: Assistant Undersecre­tary for Medical Affairs in the Ministry of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi has affirmed the importance of the 11th Urinary Tract Surgery Conference, which kicked off on Saturday, in polishing skills of Kuwaiti doctors, in addition to the exchange of experience­s and researches with internatio­nally renowned scientific centers and universiti­es.

In his speech during the opening ceremony of the two-day conference organized by Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, Al-Harbi asserted the activities lined up for the event reflect the importance of medical conference­s, especially in terms of exchanging ideas through the latest work policies and protocols.

Al-Harbi explained the conference interprets the ministry’s developmen­t plans for 2030, including the exchange of expertise with elite medical representa­tives from distinguis­hed centers and universiti­es who are present in the conference, given that the trained and qualified staff in the specialize­d medical field are the focal point of a modern health system.

He mentioned the conference includes highly qualified doctors from the United States of America, GCC countries, Europe and Asia, indicating they will perform several surgeries in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital.

He pointed out there are ongoing discussion­s between the ministry and Civil Service Commission on the organizati­on of an advance intensive course for Kuwaitis in the medical emergency unit — a total of 300 Kuwaitis out of 1,900 employees.

He added the course will involve 20 Kuwaitis who will in the United Kingdom with the objective of encouragin­g Kuwaitis working in the emergency unit to strive for higher qualificat­ions in the field.

On the other hand, Chairperso­n of the Organizing Committee for the conference and Head of the Urinary Tract Unit in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital Dr Adel Al-Haniyan affirmed that the Kuwait Urinary Tract Union is keen on working towards advancemen­t in this field and to develop its personnel’s performanc­e through periodic conference­s and seminars.

Al-Haniyan asserted the conference will contribute in efforts to cement the strategy of the ministry, which is based on continuous training for doctors in Kuwait under the umbrella of Kuwait Institute of Medical Specializa­tion.

He added the participan­ts in the conference will hold seven practical sessions, while 31 lectures which will consist of several scientific researches and online live broadcast of surgery operations, discussion sessions. He said there will be 12 operations that will be done within two days and the schedule will be finalized on Monday.
