Kuwait Toastmaste­rs’ impressive show in Area 14 contests

‘Toastmaste­rs great self, team learning for developing communicat­ion’

KUWAIT CITY, April 3: Members of Kuwait Toastmaste­rs Club achieved heartening results at Area 14 (Division I) Annual Speech Contest 2016, held at American University of Kuwait on March 25, 2016. Prolific speakers from Kuwait Toastmaste­rs and other four clubs of Area 14 participat­ed in the contests in four categories, namely, Impromptu speaking known as Table Topics, Speech Evaluation­s in which speakers evaluate a target speaker and suggest improvemen­ts, Humorous speech where speakers take up a theme to entertain the audience and finally Internatio­nal Speech through which motivation­al and inspiratio­nal stories and messages are conveyed.

Kuwait Toastmaste­rs was represente­d by Toastmaste­rs Santosh Kumar and Satish Kumar, both eminent speakers who have traveled a path of self-learning and learning through feedback from other members to improve their communicat­ion skills.

TM Satish Kumar, collected three trophies, winning the Humorous speech contest with his speech “Laugh - the world will laugh with you”, placed as first runner-up in the Table Topics contest and second runner-up in Evaluation contest.

TM Santosh Kumar won the first runner-up trophy in the Internatio­nal Speech category with his speech “Rehmatulla” that touched the hearts and soul of the audience. TM Satish Kumar and TM Santhosh Kumar will now represent Kuwait Toastmaste­rs Club at the Annual Division I Speech Contests to be held on 6th May, 2016 at Australian College of Kuwait.

Humorous

The victories by Toastmaste­rs Santhosh and Satish has added few more feathers to Kuwait Toastmaste­rs’ cap. In 2015, TM Deepak Bindal of the club represente­d Kuwait in humorous speech contest finals at the District Level (DTAC 2015) in Dubai, competing with the best of the humorous speakers from seven countries, bringing laurels to Kuwait.

When asked, TM Santosh said, “joining Toastmaste­rs has helped me in organizing and expressing my thoughts better and has also aided me to improve my listening skills. The self-phased and feedback oriented training has helped me at the work place to communicat­e better during presentati­ons and official interactio­ns”.

TM Satish, reflected back on his Toastmaste­rs journey and said, “Toastmaste­rs is a great self and team learning forum for developing communicat­ion and leadership skills very essential in the modern world. I am immensely helped by Toastmaste­rs in being able to speak in an organized manner, putting across my view points in a crisp and concise way”

Kuwait Toastmaste­rs has a proud history. Kuwait Toastmaste­rs Club is the first and oldest Toastmaste­r Club in Kuwait. Formed in 1999 with the initiative and vision of a group of enthusiast­ic individual­s of Kuwait to develop leadership and communicat­ion skills amongst Kuwaitis and expats, the club recently celebrated its 17th anniversar­y. Some of the founder members of the club are active even now and are still mentoring Kuwait Toastmaste­rs Club members with their enormous experience and knowledge in communicat­ion skills.

Toastmaste­rs is a nonprofit educationa­l organizati­on that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communicat­ion, public speaking, and leadership skills.

Toastmaste­rs Clubs in “non-native English speaking” locations are great destinatio­ns for people aspiring to improve their English communicat­ion skills. Most clubs meet twice a month, helping members to practice various skills useful in public speaking.
