Warriors triumph

SYDNEY, April 3, (AFP): Roger TuivasaSheck came back to haunt his former club by scoring the winning try in golden point extra time for the New Zealand Warriors over the Sydney Roosters in Australia’s National Rugby League on Sunday.

Tuivasa-Sheck finished off a sweeping 70-metre movement to score and seal a 3228 win over the Roosters to leave them without a win in five outings this season.

Up until then the Warriors wasted several chances to win the game with Test star Shaun Johnson missing three drop goal attempts.

It was Tuivasa-Sheck’s first try since leaving the Roosters at the end of last season and in his first match against his old club.

Penrith scored a try after the full-time siren to claim a 20-18 win over Parramatta in the west Sydney derby at Parramatta in Sunday’s other match.

Bryce Cartwright dummied his way over for his second try after a Jamie Soward crossfield kick.

The Brisbane Broncos and Melbourne Storm lead the NRL competition with four wins from five rounds.

The Broncos held on against the Gold Coast Titans 24-16, while the Storm left it late before beating the Newcastle Knights 18-14 in Melbourne.

Test scrum-half Cooper Cronk scored a try double, while Richie Kennar broke the deadlock with a 73rd-minute try to keep the Knights without a win this season.

Champions North Queensland Cowboys overpowered St George Illawarra 36-0 in Townsville with six unanswered tries.

English Test star Sam Burgess made his return from a neck injury to lead South Sydney to a 16-12 win over the Manly Sea Eagles.
