Court acquits 2 citizens in drugs case
KUWAIT CITY, April 4: The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Mohammed Yusuf Jaafar, sentenced an unidentified person to two years in prison with hard labor and fined him KD 2,000 for stealing a mobile phone and laptop of a woman in addition to circulated her private pictures and beating her.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with stealing the mobile of the plaintiff and her laptop as well as beating her and circulated her private pictures. The plaintiff admitted to having a romantic relationship with the defendant but she decided to end this relationship when she discovered his bad attitude.
Attorney Mohammed Talib, lawyer for the plaintiff, urged the court to impose the toughest penalty on the defendant.
2 acquitted in drugs case: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Faisal Al-Askari acquitted two citizens of possessing hashish for consumption purpose and driving under the influence of intoxicant.
The case file indicated the officer in charge of the case was on routine duty in Hawalli area when he stopped the suspects for violating traffic regulation. He went ahead to conduct a search inside their vehicle and found a blue black substance with the first suspect and a black bag containing drug tools with the second suspect. He arrested and referred them to concerned authorities for legal action.
Representing the two defendants, Lawyer Ayed Al-Rashidi argued that procedures leading to his clients’ search and arrest were illegitimate. He implored the court to clear them of all charges, given that the prosecuting officer
couldn’t present any proof against them.
Verdict nullified: The Misdemeanor Section in the Court of Appeals nullified the verdict of the First Instance Court, which sentenced two Kuwaitis to three months in prison with hard labor for stealing and vandalizing a luxury car, leading to the acquittal of the suspects.
The plaintiff, a car rental office, accused the two citizens of stealing the car valued at KD 55,000 from Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, alleging its investigations led to the identification of the suspects who also damaged a few other vehicles.
However, the citizens’ lawyer, Attorney Ali Al-Ali, argued that the investigation documents did not present any incriminating evidence. He stressed the investigation upon which the previous verdict was based lacked the necessary elements to arrive at such a conclusion.
Decision tied to supervision: The Cassation Prosecution in its report has said the decision by the Interior Ministry to withdraw the citizenship of former MP Abdullah Al Barghash and his family is subject to the supervision of the Administrative Court, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The Cassation Prosecution has refused to accept the verdict of the Court of Appeals which had earlier overturned the verdict of the Administrative Court annulling a government decision to revoke the citizenships.
The Prosecutors said in a report sent to the Administrative Court of Cassation that they have received an appeal from former MP and his family on the decision to revoke their citizenships.
