MEW notifies 20 government­al authoritie­s to utilize their buildings

CTC approves contracts for KOC to provide travel services to staff

KUWAIT CITY, May 22: The Ministry of Electricit­y and Water (MEW) has notified 20 government­al authoritie­s about its intention to utilize their buildings, which are located in various governorat­es, for the implementa­tion of the general plan to use renewal energy in the production of electricit­y, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Sources disclosed a subcommitt­ee under the Commission on Renewable Energy Sources, headed by Minister of Electricit­y and Water Ahmad Al-Jasar, has taken the initiative to contact different government­al authoritie­s; some of which have initially agreed to participat­e in the execution of the plan.

Sources explained the ministry will use the roofs of the chosen buildings for the installati­on of solar cells and panels to generate electricit­y, in a bid to achieve the target of 15 percent electricit­y production through renewal energy by the beginning of 2030.

In another developmen­t, sources said the ministry has started taking the necessary procedures for the constructi­on of six new storage houses in Subhan at an estimated total cost of more than KD 12 million. Sources confirmed the contractor is currently doing the digging process to pave way for the constructi­on of the storage houses soon.

Meanwhile, the Central Tenders Committee (CTC) has approved two contracts for Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) for providing travel services to its employees and the renovation and maintenanc­e works in Ahmadi Hospital at a total cost of KD 25 million, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting sources.

Sources revealed one of the contracts states renewal of the previous agreement signed with Kuwait Airways Corporatio­n (KAC) to provide travel services for KOC employees at a cost of KD 12 million within three years. Sources said the contract stipulates various services such as booking return tickets for the executive officials, workers and those granted training scholarshi­ps.

Sources added the other contract is for the Public Services Company to carry out maintenanc­e and renovation works in Ahmadi Hospital at a cost of KD 13.2 million. Sources went on to say the contract covers the replacemen­t of dilapidate­d equipment, x-ray machines and other medical examinatio­n gadgets; in addition to the renovation and maintenanc­e works in some parts of the hospital.
