Khaled El Salawy appointed as Chief Executive for ABK-Egypt

KUWAIT CITY/CAIRO, May 23: Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK), announced today that Khaled El Salawy has officially been appointed as Chief Executive Officer for ABK–Egypt.

He joins ABK from Union National Bank, where he was the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, leading the Corporate Banking Division, Treasury & Investment, SME’s and Financial Institutio­n activities. Prior to Union National Bank, he spent 8 years with AlexBank-Intesa SanPaolo Group as General Manager — Head of Corporate Banking.

“El Salawy’s broad range of experience, his relationsh­ips in the country and his ability to understand business dynamics in Egypt confirmed him to be the best person for the position,” said Ali E. Marafi, Chairman of ABK Egypt.

“He has an extensive knowledge base and perspectiv­e on the banking industry in the region and brings the right combinatio­n of knowledge and experience to achieve our goals in Egypt.

Khaled El Salawy succeeds Constantin­os Loizides, who has stepped down as Chief Executive to return to Piraeus Bank in Greece.

ABK acquired Piraeus Bank in 2015, and is currently in the process of rebranding Piraeus Bank to Al Ahli Bank–Egypt pending final approval.
