KUWAIT CITY, May 24, (KUNA): Public Authority for Sports (PAS) announced doubling up athletes’ stipends, as an initiative to support sports movement in the country.

This increase was discussed and approved by Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Sabah and head of PAS’ executive body Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour Al-Sabah, in a meeting that focused on “foreign participation”, PAS said in a press statement on Tuesday.

This financial support, which was blessed by the Kuwaiti leadership, will meet athletes’ aspirations and ambitions by eliminating any obstacles that would face their sporting careers.

In order to resuscitate the sports movement, athletes should participate in foreign camps and sporting events, the statement added.

The last increase of payments for athletes was recorded in 1998.
