The Sunshine Kindergarten holds Water Wonderland art expo

During Art Week, the children from The Sunshine Kindergarten (TSK) in Salwa set about creating individual masterpieces to display in the ‘galleries’ situated inside the nursery building.

Children aged 2 to 4 years of age, decorated canvases using paints, feathers, plastic gems, glitter, googly eyes and other mixed media, to produce works of art for the exhibition on the theme of ‘Water Wonderland’.

As TSK are always looking for ways in which to support local charities, for the second year running they have been selling the children’s canvases to their parents in order to raise money for the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) who are doing a fabulous job of making sure that people in need get the help they desperately deserve.

At the end of an exciting and inspirational two weeks, all the canvases were unveiled and the dignitaries arrived to officially open the event.

TSK were delighted that Mrs Michelle Blackett, wife of HE the Ambassador of Liberia, President of the International Women’s Group, was able to attend and cut the ribbon to officially open the exhibition. Mrs Michelle was amazed at the work the TSK children had done and on receiving a bouquet of yellow roses from the children enthused about how cute and smart they were.

Also present at the opening of the exhibition was Dr Nivin, representing the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), who will be receiving a cheque from the sale of the children’s art work, and Ms Viv Anthony, President of The British Ladies Society (BLS) in Kuwait.

TSK Principal Joanne Wild was immensely proud of the hard work and effort that the children and their teachers had put into making the exhibition such a success. She stated “We are very fortunate to live in a world where we do not have to think about where the next drop of water will come from. We use water for drinking, watering plants, washing our clothes, washing our cars etc often without thinking about the need to conserve it, but for some people this is not the case. At TSK we are aiming to make our children environmentally responsible and socially aware, even at this young age, and our Art Exhibition event will help our children focus on the importance of raising money to help others whilst promoting the understanding of the importance of water in all our lives”.

TSK follows the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS), a dynamic curriculum for young children which allows them to develop their strengths and skills as they learn through play based activities, active learning and creative arts sessions. It is the dedication of the teaching team and the support and enthusiasm of the parents and their children that ensures that events such as the Water Wonderland Exhibition continue to highlight The Sunshine Kindergarten’s position as Kuwait’s premier early years centre.
