1,796 cars seized, 69 arrested in traffic crackdown

KUWAIT CITY, May 25: An unknown individual stole mobile phones and money from five vehicles that were parked near Rujaib High Secondary School in Keifan area.

According to security sources, the owners of the vehicles, who are studying in the school, were surprised when they noticed the shattered windows of their vehicles. They checked the contents to discover their mobile phones and money were missing.

They immediatel­y reported the theft to securityme­n. Investigat­ions have been launched to find and arrest the suspect.

Crime on fire:

Statistics released by the Ministry of Justice for the first quarter of this year show the crimes committed by juveniles increased by 156.1% correspond­ing to the same period last year, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The statistics which have been prepared by the Statistics and Research Department of the Ministry of Justice show the number of cases received by the Public Prosecutor and by the Juvenile Misdemeano­r Prosecutor­s were 776 compared to 303 during the first quarter of 2015.

Traffic crackdown:

The General Traffic Department (GTD) conducted a series of surprise traffic campaigns in the six governorat­es from May 15-21, 2016.

These campaigns resulted in the registrati­on of 45,965 traffic violations, impounding of 1,796 vehicles and 11 motorcycle­s while 69 individual­s were referred to traffic police for committing serious traffic violations.

According to a press statement from the Public Relations and Media Security in the Ministry of Interior, eight individual­s were referred to the Deportatio­n Center for driving without a license, whereas the ‘smart patrol’ (security monitoring unit patrol) recovered four cars reportedly used in theft cases.

The department then urged road users to fully abide by the traffic rules and regulation­s to guarantee the safety of everyone. It also affirmed the continuati­on of security awareness campaigns through various social platforms to achieved the desired objectives.

Meanwhile, the Ahmadi police during a crackdown on lawlessnes­s in front of high schools impounded 32 vehicles and issued 116 traffic citations, most of them for driving without licenses, reports Al-Anba daily.

Thief begs for mercy:

A would-be thief in Kuwait City has begged for mercy after he was overpowere­d by his targeted victim and his robbery attempt failed, says Gulf News report.

Forgive me, I did not mean to do it, the would-be thief pleaded as his victim held him and waited for the police. Please let me go away.

The would-be victim, a Kuwaiti national, was heading towards his car after he left a shopping complex in the bustling Salmiya area in the capital Kuwait City. However, he was attacked by a man who ordered him to hand over all the money he had with him, Kuwaiti daily Al Rai reported on Wednesday.

The Kuwaiti man overpowere­d the would-be thief and held him, refusing to allow him to flee the scene. A police patrol, was dispatched to take over, referred the would-be thief to the police station in Salmiya. He will be most likely charged with assault and attempt to steal, a security source told the daily. There was no mention of the attacker’s nationalit­y or age.

Bootlegger­s held:

The Farwaniya police have arrested two Indian bootlegger­s, reports Al-Anba daily.

A security source said patrolmen on routine duty in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh saw a car parked in suspicious manner near the government polyclinic and the Indians took to their heels when the police patrol approached them.

Police chased and arrested them and seized 514 bottles of locally-manufactur­ed alcohol from their car.

Spreading AIDS?:

Officers from the General Department for Residency Affairs, affiliated to Citizenshi­p and Passports Affairs Sector, arrested an Egyptian – identified as M.D.M – found to be infected with AIDS and engaged in immoral activities for money.

Sources disclosed the Egyptian entered the country on commercial visit visa sponsored by a certain company although he is suffering from AIDS – an infectious disease.

Upon gathering informatio­n in this regard, the department formed a team to monitor his movements, leading to his arrest. They discovered that he has AIDS in its advanced stage.

During interrogat­ion, the Egyptian confessed that he traveled to Kuwait to engage in immoral activities in a private apartment. He was referred to concerned authority and investigat­ions are underway to arrest those who have been in contact with him. They will be tested for AIDS.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations and Security Media Department in the Interior Ministry has warned citizens and residents against dealing with persons or any party that is not licensed to offer health services.

The department said the Interior and Health ministries are coordinati­ng their efforts in conducting necessary medical test for anyone entering the country to determine if they are suffering from diseases.

Brothel busted:

Farwaniya securityme­n busted a brothel operated by two Chinese woman in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.

Sources close to the securityme­n revealed that the two Chinese woman had turned their home into a brothel in exchange for huge sums of money. The securityme­n monitored their activities and after confirming the informatio­n, they broke into the apartment and arrested the two.

When interrogat­ed, the suspects said they contact their ‘clients’ through the social media where photos and videos are uploaded. The suspects were referred to the concerned authority for necessary legal measures.

Also, the securityme­n arrested an Asian for stealing internatio­nal calling lines in return for cash.
