‘Spare no efforts for peace’

Help out needy people: Amir

- — Compiled by Zaki Taleb

“IN HIS speech at the World Humanitarian Summit which was held recently in the Turkish City of Istanbul, HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah – we pray to Almighty Allah to protect him -- lauded the role played by Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in hosting the first World Humanitarian Summit,” columnist Dr Humoud

Al-Hattab wrote for Al-Seyassah daily Thursday.

“The Amir, referring to the Syrian crisis, reminded that the State of Kuwait played a vital role to confront the biggest humanitarian catastrophe ever witnessed by the world by hosting three conferences for donors, in addition to participating in the fourth such conference which was held in the British capital and along with Britain, Italy and Norway the State of Kuwait donated $600 million in the form of assistance to the victims of the Syrian crisis.

“He clarified the State of Kuwait has embarked on a mission to extend humanitarian assistance to the needy people all over the world. He hinted the aid that has been extended by the State of Kuwait over the past five years has exceeded $2 billion.

“‘By doing so’, HH the Amir went on to say ‘Kuwait is ranked first at the global level in terms of extending humanitarian assistance vis-à-vis its national income and this is emphasized by the relevant international statistics.

“Apart from the above, HH the Amir said at the World Humanitarian Summit that the need for the summit was dictated by the escalating tensions throughout the world in addition to the aggravation of armed struggles in various parts of the world – the events which have coincided with increasing natural disasters and all these struggles and events have resulted in doubling the number of refugees which is estimated at 60 million and add to this the number of people (2.2 billion) who are living under the poverty line due to difficult economic situations.

“HH the Amir further emphasized that the current international dialogue to discuss the above issues will inevitably conduce to the adoption of clear cut recommendations to guarantee an effective and fruitful humanitarian response from those taking part in the conference to innovate a new mechanism and constructive ideas to keep abreast with the escalating crises and consecutive disasters in cooperation with the United Nations.

“HH the Amir also made it clear in his speech that the facts and details related to the humanitarian disasters which currently prevail in various parts of the world entail that this situation must be confronted and encountered by all means.

“He called on all parties to the conference to spare no efforts to end the struggles and tensions on our planet and respond swiftly and effectively to the requirements of the needy people everywhere and secure for them an appropriate standard of living.

“In the meantime, HH the Amir said ‘based on the pertinent facts and the unprecedented statements over the catastrophic humanitarian situations which currently prevail in our world they require that all of us must work effectively to respond to the requirements of the needy people everywhere as swiftly as possible’.

“He hinted that ‘all of the us must seize the current opportunity and go ahead in terms of conducting a global dialogue that shall inevitably lead to the adoption of clear cut recommendations to guarantee a swift response to help the needy on our planet and enable us to cooperate with the United Nations’.

“In conclusion, we hope those who took part in the Summit will closely follow up the implementation process of the summit’s recommendations. We pray to Almighty Allah to unify the ranks of the believers.”

“The speech delivered recently by the Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouk Al-Ghanim describing HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad as the renovator, the believer in and the preserver of democracy is a document that concisely projects the career and the reign of HH the Amir,” columnist

Tha’ar Al-Rashidi wrote for Al-Anba daily Thursday.

“The most significant part contained in the speech of Al-Ghanim is the Speaker’s testimony that every time he consulted HH the Amir on the rights of the people the Amir has always shown bias to the demands of the people.

“Yes, the Speaker was definitely right, because Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad is one of the founders of the country’s Constitution. Not just that, he was the protector of and believer in this Constitution. He has always insisted on the validity of this Constitution even during difficult times the country has passed by turning down any attempt that was exerted for ‘amending’ the Constitution during the socalled ‘war among the political sects’.

“Not just that, HH the Amir has efficiently managed to stop the state of deterioration that was facing the country in the recent years and restored political stability in the country for more than the past three years and until now.

“However, in spite of this rejection of political moderation that has been shown by some people, particularly those who have lost the ‘war of political sects’, this doesn’t deny the fact that the country during the reign of Sheikh Sabah by virtue of his experience and wisdom is witnessing a new renaissance.

“In this context, we would like to point out that in reality our country is currently passing through a new march which we earlier were eagerly looking forward to.

“Not just that, we suggest that we at the moment are witnessing the appearance of a new Kuwait and this is evident through the gigantic construction projects which currently are being implemented throughout the country.

“In other words, during the reign of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, the State of Kuwait witnesses the birth of distinguished renaissance at cultural, economic and constructional levels. Moreover, the country has witnessed the construction of many new cities during his reign.

“However, the above, cannot have happened, were it not for HH the Amir’s ability to consecrate political stability during the recent past. In this context, we say the data shows Kuwait during the current year shall witness the launch of a series of new projects after many years of slump.

“Certainly, Sheikh Sabah represents the builder of the new State of Kuwait. He is also the father and defender of the country’s Constitution and this seems to be natural because he is one of the founders of this Constitution. He is also born in the womb of democracy as the first Arab head of State who has been chosen through democratic consensus.

“He is the man of a vision who aims to transform the State of Kuwait into a financial and commercial hub. He is currently seriously striving to transform this dream into a reality and the signs in this regard are clearly visible on the ground.”

“I wish we have a ‘Ministry of Children Affairs’ because preschool children in our society are living in a poor state of passion and education, which even extends to their health and psychological state,” Dr Jassem Al-Mutawa wrote for Al-Kuwaitiah daily.

“This is more pronounced with changes in the system of living for the parents. A child of today faces neglect in terms of upbringing. We hardly find a family that trains its children properly. Majority of the children are victims of neglect in aspects relating to education, health, psychology and character. Educational neglect has led to overwhelming problems among the youth as well as adults.

“There is a popular saying – What starts well ends well. This is in line with what the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said – Every child is born with a clean slate and is ready to assimilate the right education.

“Due to this, I wish for the establishment of a Ministry of Children Affairs, which will focus on protecting and developing children, teaching parents the necessary skills for providing right education to their children, organizing programs for children, supervising institutions and societies that handle children affairs and coordinating with private companies that work in that aspect.”

“In spite of the fact that the one-man one-vote has been upheld by the Constitutional Court, there are several proposals to amend the electoral system in Kuwait,” columnist Tareq

Idriss wrote for Al-Seyassah daily. “The lawmakers who are looking to disrupt the stability of the country through various means have come up with a draft proposal to make Kuwait one constituency with one vote for one man.

“The main question here is, under what kind of pressures are they are looking to justify their proposal?

“We want to tell them that ‘the current situation has ensured continued stability for the legislative tenure of your Assembly, so why are you looking for obstacles in the path of your election process?”

“The traffic management act gives traffic police the right to withdraw driving licenses temporarily or permanently and the car registration book for a period of two months in addition to the administrative punishment,” columnist, retired Major-General Hamad

Al-Sraea’a wrote for Al-Anba daily. “But there is a problem faced by many motorists when they are asked by the officer to hand over their driving licences and car registration book because as per the many complaints filed by the motorists there is a smell of negligence since in many cases the licences and car registration books are either lost or misplaced and the motorist is forced to get a duplicate at his/her own cost.

“This is because some traffic officers fail to deliver these documents to the concerned department in the General Traffic Department.

“The withdrawal of the license or car registration book must be done if and when it is required and this can be done by summoning the violator and asking him/her to hand over the driving licence and the car registration book and paying the fine after the completion of the period of confiscation.

“This is the correct way of applying the law to prevent the loss of driving licenses and the car registration books of violators.

“We hope Major-General Abdullah Al-Muhanna, Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs and Major General Fahd, Assistant Director-General of the Traffic Organization Department issues clear instructions in this regard.”

“The Muslim Brotherhood movement took advantage of the so-called Arab Spring in some states to begin the establishment of the Islamic caliphate,” columnist AbdulMohsen Al-Hussaini wrote for Al-Shahed daily.

“The Turkish president who represents the Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey was ready to be ‘sworn’ as the new caliph of Muslims, but the failure of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and Tunis poured cold water on Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s plans.

“The Muslim Brotherhood group in Tunis bowed to the demands of the Tunisians and organized subsequent elections and also agreed to demand for a popular government.

“In Egypt, the Egyptians deposed the head of the Muslim Brotherhood group when the 33 million Egyptians marched onto the streets to oust the government which was formed by the Muslim Brotherhood and sought the help of the Egyptian army and the police to uproot the remnants of the Brotherhood movement and the army led by the then Minister of Defence succeeded in ousting from office the Brotherhood president Mohammad Morsi and nullified the rule of the Brotherhood movement.”

“We thank God because we enjoy stability and democracy under our political leadership,” columnist Abdulrahman

Awwad wrote for Al-Sabah daily. “Perhaps the unrivalled and unique support, patronage and presence of HH the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad for the inauguration of the new Sabah Al-Ahmad National Assembly building in the presence of members of both the legislative and the executive authorities and top State officials is a testimony of stability and democracy.

“The sublime presence of all the concerned authorities during the inauguration is clear evidence and deep signs which reflect the belief of political leadership in democracy. Therefore, lawmakers who are considered the representatives of people headed by the Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouk Al Ghanim are entitled to appreciate the role played by HH the Amir.

“This long-awaited project includes offices for lawmakers and minister, in addition to other vital utilities, which help the Assembly to perform its tasks and send a clear message.”

“The Islamic Constitutional Movement (ICM) is expected to release its official statement on May 26 to announce its participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections,” Mubarak Fahad

Al-Duwaila wrote for Al-Qabas daily. “Since I am one among those who are intending to change their decision of boycotting the elections to participating in them, I will express my point of view in this article.

“I am certain that the decision of the Islamic Constitutional Movement will not be accepted by some politicians and bloggers who have ideological differences with the movement and refuse to accept any of its stances even if the latter are in line with their stances.

“Our decision to boycott the elections was because we considered the one-man one-vote law as unconstitutional. After the Constitutional Court declared the law as constitutional, we did not have any problem with it. We believed the law will not enable citizens to choose their representatives properly. We expected majority of the people to boycott the elections and that was what happened. However, things have changed recently and there are indications of wider participation in these elections except for a few who do not represent any bloc. This does not mean boycotting the elections is wrong because in reality, a good parliament must represent all parties and political trends in the society. By boycotting the election, a major fact was proven, which is that the opposition is not the reason behind the social, economic and political crises in the country. The government controls the current parliament which has no opposition members. Nevertheless, crises and problems are the same.

“Some are of the opinion that the participation of the opposition will not ensure its majority in the parliament. However, that is the way things are. It is enough for a few opposition representatives to reach the parliament in order to stop the issuance of laws that are not in favor of the citizens. Only one parliament had majority of opposition members but it did not last for more than few weeks.

“To those who think boycotting the elections is still the solution, I want to ask them the following. What is your agenda? Who will represent your point of views if you boycott the elections? What is your recommended method for fighting corruption?

“We will participate in the elections to put an end to citizenship revocation. We will participate to release the prisoners of conscience. We will participate to fight corruption.

“We are not certain if everything we desire will be achieved but we will do our best instead of sitting silently inside our homes and crying over spilled milk.”
