FM chairs GCC-Russia meet; holds talks with Lavrov
Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah chaired on Thursday the fourth joint ministerial meeting for strategic dialogue between the GCC and Russia.
The meeting dealt primarily with strengthening relations in numerous fields of interest between the GCC and Russia, said a statement from the Kuwait foreign ministry.
On the sideline of the meeting, the Kuwaiti foreign minister met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov where the two conducted official talks, focusing on boosting bilateral relations.
The Russian side to the talks praised the growing ties between the two countries, having recalled the state visit to Russia last year by the Amir of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Lavrov applauded on Thursday the strategic dialogue between Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) during a meeting held in Moscow with GCC foreign ministers.
He hoped that this meeting would boost cooperation in the political, economic, humanitarian and cultural aspects.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir on his part said the GCC states are exerting great efforts to develop relations with Russia in various domains.
The GCC and Russia share similar views in respecting nations’ sovereignty, committing to the international law and not interfering in internal affairs, he said.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah left Moscow, on Thursday, after attending the fourth joint ministerial meeting for strategic dialogue between the GCC and Russia.
The Minister was seen off by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Russia Abdulaziz Al-Adwani and members of the diplomatic mission. On the sideline of attending the GCC-Russia meeting, the Kuwaiti foreign minister met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov where the two conducted official talks, focusing on boosting bilateral relations.
