President of Indonesia receives Prince Alwaleed

Local, regional issues and global economic climate discussed

RIYADH, May 30: HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) visited Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia and met HE President Joko Widodoin. The meeting was attended by HE Mrs Retno L. P. Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Prof Dr Pratikno, Minister of State Secretary, HE Sudirman Said is the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, HE Agus Miftah Abegebriel, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Saudi Arabia. The meeting was also attended by Ms Hassna Alturki, Executive Manager for Internatio­nal Relations to HRH the Chairman, Hani Agha, Head of Travel and External Affairs Department and Fahad Bin Nafel, Senior Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman and Ms Reem Almarshad, Coordinato­r, Travel & External Affairs Department.

During the meeting, the president and Prince Alwaleed discussed a number of general local, regional issues and the global economic climate. Moreover, the two discussed investment, humanitari­an and social issues related to their respective countries. In addition, the president and Prince Alwaleed also discussed HRH’s global investment­s through KHC.

In 2012, Prince Alwaleed received in his office HE B. J. Habibie, former president of the Republic of Indonesia and an accompanyi­ng delegation. In 2010, Prince Alwaleed received in his office HE Dr Salim Segaf Al-Jufrie Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

In 2009, Alwaleed Philanthro­pies made a donation for the earthquake victims of Indonesia to help reconstruc­t 3 orphanages which were damaged by the disaster according to earthquake-resistant standards. The donation was made in coordinati­on with the Indonesian government and implemente­d by Mother Helpage UK. The Prince announced his readiness to donate to Indonesia through Alwaleed Philanthro­pies during a meeting with Deputy Chief of Mission. During the meeting, the Prince also conveyed his condolence­s to the government and people of Indonesia. A 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit the Indonesian city of Padang on Sumatra Island in the Indian Ocean. Tens of thousands are estimated to have lost their homes.

In 2008, Prince Alwaleed was awarded an honorary doctorate in Management Science by the University of Brawijaya, Indonesia during a conferment ceremony held in Riyadh. The award was in recognitio­n of his efforts on many fronts including his investment­s through Kingdom Holding Company that is chaired by HRH locally, regionally and internatio­nally as a respected, distinguis­hed internatio­nal investor and entreprene­ur, and HRH’s educationa­l contributi­ons on a global scale. In 2007, HRH visited Indonesia and was warmly welcomed by the people and government of Indonesia and met with the president. The president expressed his deepest appreciati­on on behalf of Indonesia’s government and people for Prince Alwaleed’s $19 Million donation to support the victims of the tsunami disaster.

HRH’s investment in Indonesia through Kingdom Holding in the financial sector is through Citigroup. Moreover, investment­s in hotels through Kingdom Holding include Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, Raffles Hotel Bali at Jimbaran and Raffles Jakarta.
