Three individual­s – an Iranian, an Egyptian and a Bedoun – were arrested at Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport before they escaped from the country in order to avoid being investigat­ed over a recent case involving an HIV-positive Egyptian expatriate. Investigat­ions also led to the arrest of 11 expatriate­s who are accused of committing immoral activities inside a massage club.

According to a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, an Egyptian national, who had arrived in the country on commercial visit visa sponsored by a health club, was detained after discoverin­g that he is HIV positive. A team of officers from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health had launched investigat­ions to identify and take necessary action against the individual­s with whom the Al-Ahmad area during which they arrested 83 individual­s, seized 7 vehicles and issued 17 traffic citations.

According to security sources, the campaign was launched based on instructio­ns from the Undersecre­tary of Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Sulaiman Al-Fahad.

About 71 individual­s of different nationalit­ies were arrested for reckless driving, ten for violating the residency law and two Egyptians who are wanted by law for their involvemen­t in cases.

The arrested individual­s were referred to the concerned authoritie­s for necessary legal action.

The sources affirmed that securityme­n will continue to hold such sudden security campaigns to arrest the violators of law.

Further investigat­ions led to the discovery of a massage parlor for men where immoral activities were being carried out. A team of detectives from the General Department for Residency Investigat­ions was formed to raid the massage parlor. They arrested eight expatriate­s of different nationalit­ies – four Syrians, three Filipinos, an Indian and a minor. They were also discovered to have violated the residency law. During interrogat­ions, they confessed that they are working for the massage parlor and had engaged in immoral activities with their clients for which they were paid.

Bedoun

A 22-year-old Bedoun youth committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope inside the constructi­on site of a project of Public Authority for Agricultur­al Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) in Sulaibiya area.

According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received informatio­n about a hanging corpse, securityme­n rushed to the location with paramedics and discovered that the corpse belongs to a 22-year-old Bedoun youth. It was referred to the Forensics Department. A case was registered and investigat­ions have been launched to determine if there is any element of crime in the case.

Student acquitted:

The Court of Appeals, headed by Judge Salah Al-Houti, acquitted a university student of joining the banned terrorist organizati­on – Jabhat Al-Nusrah. The higher court cancelled the ruling of a lower court that sentenced the student to 10 years in jail in absentia, allowed him to post bail of KD 500 and instructed him to maintain good behavior.

Attorney Abdulmuhse­n Al-Qattan, lawyer for the accused, argued in court that the case is not in line with the Criminal Law and it is not under the jurisdicti­on of the court, while pointing out that the accused did not admit joining the organizati­on.

Earlier, the Public Prosecutio­n charged the student with committing an aggressive action against a country (Syria) by joining Jabhat Al-Nusra which is affiliated to al-Qaeda.

Agencies add: Raid in fish market:

The Food and Markets Monitoring Unit of the Services Followup and Inspection Department affiliated to Capital Municipali­ty recently carried out an inspection campaign inside the Fish Market in Al-Mubarakiya during which officials issued 19 citations and requested the closure of a shop and destructio­n of 22 kilograms of fish, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The inspection was a part of a campaign titled ‘Your Health Concerns Us’ which was initiated by the Municipali­ty in preparatio­n for the Holy Month of Ramadan. It will cover all activities of various department­s and monitoring teams in the Municipali­ty branches across the six governorat­es.

According to Director of Services Follow-up and Inspection Department at Capital Municipali­ty Eman Al-Kandari, the campaigns are being held in food shops, restaurant­s, cooperativ­e society stores, markets and sale outlets.

She declared that the Public Relations Department participat­ed in the campaign held at the Al-Mubarakiya Market, revealing that the campaigns are based on directives from Director General of Kuwait Municipali­ty Eng Ahmad Al-Manfouhi.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Europe Ambassador Walid Al-Khubaizi said the UK has deported to Kuwait three bedoun who hold Article (17) passports, reports Al-Rai daily.

Meanwhile, he indicated the British-Kuwait joint steering committee ended its meetings a few days ago in the British capital. Al-Khubaizi said the talks centred on defense, security, migration, health, investment, trade, education and culture issues.

Al-Khubaizi also revealed the Kuwaiti side has requested its British counterpar­t to study the possibilit­y of establishi­ng a counter at the Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport to stamp the passports of Kuwaitis entering Britain instead of having them to wait for long hours at the British airports. Moustafa Awadhi Hassan. A broken laboratory pipe triggered leakage of a dangerous substance at a laboratory in Sabah Hospital.

Acting on informatio­n, the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry deployed a fire rescue team to the scene. The team traced the leakage to a pipe from the laboratory inside the hospital and went ahead to evacuate the first floor after which they reduced concentrat­ion of the leaked substance. They used special equipment to absorb the toxic material without casualties.
