KUWAIT CITY, May 30, (Agencies): The UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmad met with representatives of Ansarullah movement and General People’s Congress (GPC) to discuss main topics in the UN-sponsored Yemeni peace talks held in Kuwait.

The meeting, held on Monday, discussed the two sides’ views on resuming political dialogue, applying the articles of signed agreements, releasing prisoners, arms embargo and withdrawal of armed forces.

The UN envoy is also set to meet with a delegation of the Yemeni government later today to discuss the same issues.

Meanwhile, Yemeni clashing parties will meet on Tuesday to discuss the lists of prisoners’ names received by the UN yesterday, in preparation to release the detainees in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Meanwhile, President of Arab Parliament (AP) Ahmad Al-Jarwan commended on Monday Kuwait’s hosting of Yemeni peace talks and the wise diplomacy of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah aiming to support Yemen’s dialogue.

Addressing the fifth session of the first legislative term of AP, Al-Jarwan expressed his hope that the current peace negotiations among Yemeni warring parties “would support Yemenis’ will, and achieve security and stability and protect freedoms”.

He stressed the necessity of promoting the joint Arab action so as to face local, regional and international challenges, and risks seeking to tamper with institutions of Arab countries and control the destiny of Arabs.

Al-Jarwan renewed his call for the international community and UN to implement international resolutions through solving the Palestinian cause, establishing an Independent State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital and deterring racial policies of Zionist entity against Palestinians.

He affirmed that all these policies run counter to all international laws.

He also renewed its call to all parliaments across the world to practice further pressures in order to recognize the Palestinian State for achieving justice and serving peace endeavors in the region and the whole world. He called for boycotting Israeli products in the occupied territories.

Al-Jarwan noted that the deteriorating situations and catastrophes of Syrian refugees in both neighboring and European countries need an immediate action to stop their suffering.

“We launched the initiative of Arab Parliament with the goal to protect the rights of Syrian refugees through promoting cooperation with regional and international parliamentary organizations to find an urgent solution for refugees,” AlJarawan said.

He called, in the same context, for a comprehensive ceasefire deal in Syria to stop the bloodshed there, urging international community to find a resolution to the Syrian crisis which entered its sixth year.

He also called on Iran to cease its interference in domestic affairs of Arab countries, abide by principles of good neighborliness and stop spreading seeds of ugly sectarianism in several areas of the Arab World.

He urged it to end the occupation of the UAE’s Islands; Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs through holding direct negotiations or resorting to International Court of Justice.

He confirmed to attendees that AP stands side by side with Iraqi people suffering from several difficult conditions like fighting the so-called Islamic State and the besiege imposed on some areas, mainly in Falluja.
