MP calls for implementation of Sports Law

- By Abubakar A. Ibrahim

KUWAIT CITY, July 12: The delayed issuance of the executive regulations of the AntiCorruption Authority Law might change the structure of parliamentary accountability in the next legislative round, says MP Ahmad Al-Qudaibi.

In a statement to the press, the lawmaker pointed out that the law was published in the official gazette in February this year and the executive regulations should be issued within two months after the publication of the law but it has been delayed for more than three months now. He asserted Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Justice Yacoub Al-Sane said on June 4, 2016 that the executive regulations were in the hands of the Fatwa and Legislative Department yet no decision has been taken till date.

“Unfortunately, when the issue is related to personal interests and corruption such as the real estate registration contracts or oil pipeline deal, the

department head usually takes a decision within a few days.

This is not the case with the AntCorruption Authority as everyone seems keen on disrupting its operations,” he lamented.

He added the department consists of some Kuwaiti staff who work day and night to protect the interests of the State, while certain officials do nothing but look for loopholes which they can use to violate laws.

He said such acts are considered the worst form of abuse against the department and its staff, indicating that the next legislative round will be a time for uncovering the truth behind the actions of the department head.

Moreover, MP Dr Abdullah AlTuraiji has called on Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud to follow up the implementation of the amended Sports Law.

He said the law grants the minister power to correct the wrong situation and to hold accountable those behind the deterioration of the sports sector.

He warned that anyone who disrupts sports activities will be held responsible, stressing the patience of the nation is wearing thin so it is now time to take action against those who are trying to thwart efforts to serve in the interest of the youths.
