KUWAIT CITY, July 24: Confessional statements made by Ali AlOsaimi nicknamed Abu Turab has attracted reactions from various segments of the society.

The suspect recounted in a recent cross examination at the Criminal Court of First Instance last week that he joined DAESH on the influence of online fatwas issued by some Kuwaiti clerics, in addition to role played by some university dons.

A source said each person is enjoined to monitor students and employees living abroad on scholarships and missions. He said such people could become easy recruits for extremists who intend to brainwash and recruit them for the so-called jihad if left alone.

He stated the authorities have been taking necessary steps to cleanse the sources of extremism and religious fanaticism.

He cited academic institutions, mosques and reform institutions as targeted areas. He added the suspect is threatened with death if he dares make startling revelations.

In this context, MP Faisal Al-Shaya affirmed the need to protect the

youth against unusual ideologies that can lead them astray.

He said confessions credited to Abu Turab are signs that some university teachers and clerics are dangerous and bad influence on them.

Another lawmaker MP Abdul-Rahman Al-Jeran revealed he requested the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Essa and Kuwait University President Professor Hussain AlAnsariduring a recent meeting- to take note of cases relating to misbehavior, extremism and ideological repression at the College of Sharia. He urged them to take strong steps against the names of suspects and monitor their posts on social media.
