KUWAIT CITY, July 28: MP Saleh Ashour has forwarded queries to Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad AlKhalid about the fundraising campaign organized by some scholars to prepare Mujahideen (fighters) in Syria.

He pointed out the social media published photos of the ‘Scholars Campaign for Preparing Mujahideen in Syria’ organized by a group including Nazim Misbah, Ajil al-Nashmi, Shafi Al-Ajmi, Nabil Al-Awadi, Nayef Alajmi.

He wants to know the measures taken by the Ministry of Interior regarding the campaign. He asked if the organizers have been summoned for interrogation and if they were referred to the Public Prosecution. He also requested copies of the investigation results and other pertinent information.

Meanwhile, MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji has called for the intervention of First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid regarding the decision of the Ministry of Finance to reduce the salaries of Kuwaiti diplomats. He argued the Finance Ministry’s justification for taking this decision — fixing foreign currency exchange rates against the Kuwaiti dinar — is illogical considering the enormous task of Kuwaiti diplomats. He stressed the need for the ministry to take into consideration the nature of the work of diplomats, especially this time

when the international situation is shaky.

He disclosed the decision surprised the diplomats who were expecting salary increment as well as the approval of the proposed health insurance for them and their families, especially since they work outside the country. He also pointed out that the salaries of Kuwaiti diplomats are lower than that of their counterparts in other GCC nations.

Furthermore, Rapporteur of Foreign Affairs Committee at the National Assembly Mohammed Tana Al-Anazi said the decision of the ministry has negatively affected the diplomats, considering their salaries were reduced by almost a thousand Kuwaiti dinars.

“Supporting the currency is not a valid excuse for reducing the salaries of Kuwaiti diplomats who work in other countries where the culture or way of life is totally different from what they have been used to,” he concluded.
