Pak lawmakers laud Kuwait’s vital role in APA

ISLAMABAD, July 28, (KUNA): Pakistan’s parliament­arians, including Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed and Sherry Rehman, lauded Kuwait’s significan­t and vital role in the Asian Parliament­ary Assembly (APA).

“Kuwait is an active participan­t of the APA and it has always been vocal on political and humanitari­an issues of the region. We consider the participat­ion of Kuwait vital for the associatio­n to reshape the future of Asia from Kuwait to Korea,” Syed told KUNA Wednesday.

Syed also described His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s policies as “very progressiv­e and supportive” of APA’s vision to increase the cooperatio­n among Asian countries.

Earlier, Chairman Senate of Pakistan Raza Rabbani met with Kuwait’s participat­ing delegation at the APA, including MPs Humoud Al-Hamdan and Dr. Khalil Abdullah, and discussed with them matters of mutual interests and measures to control the climate change.

Rabbani also extended his greetings to His Highness the Amir, and sent an official invitation to Kuwait Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim to visit Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the APA meeting of Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Affairs concluded today following adoption of the final report.

During the two-day meeting, delegates from 19 countries, including Kuwait, elected Cambodia as the new President, where Jordan and Maldives were elected as the Vice Chairperso­n and Rapporteur respective­ly for the Standing Committee meeting.

The participan­ts also presented and discussed APA Secretary General Progress report on implementa­tion of the present resolution­s and considerat­ions of proposals presented by member parliament­s.

The adopted final report included financial affair subjects, the role of APA to adopt legislatio­n in supporting the sustainabl­e developmen­t goals, Asian integrated energy market, environmen­tal issues, and poverty eradicatio­n.
