KUWAIT CITY, Oct 12, (KUNA): Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs Waleed Al-Khubaizi stated that Kuwait’s request to exempt its nationals from the Schengen visa requirement is still pending the European approval.

The security sector in the European Union is undergoing a critical stage which prompted EU interior ministers to take a number of precautionary measures recently including a decision to postpone reviewing of states’ requests for Schengen visa exemption, Al-Khubaizi told reporters on the sidelines of his participation in the Spanish embassy’s celebration of the national day.

He emphasized that Kuwait has completed all the technical requirements and is waiting the resumption of the EU reviewing of the Schengen visa

exemption requests.

The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has launched the 2016 second campaign on enriching fish wealth in the territorial sea waters, said KISR Director General Dr. Sameera Ahmad Al-Sayyed Omar on Wednesday.

She added that the campaign will continue during October and November, stressing the need to raise awareness of citizens and residents on preserving fish.

Dr. Omar noted that the first campaign was launched last year under the auspices of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, in collaboration with several bodies.

The 2015-2016 campaigns have a developmental dimension which seeks to increase fish reserve and an awareness one which aims to achieve a wide societal participation from bodies and donors, she said.

The 2016 campaign is expected to release more than 135,000 different species of fish, she pointed out.

She said that the campaigns of releasing fish into territorial water is part of KISR’s contributions to enhancing food security.

Omar noted that the institute is cooperating with some concerned bodies to intensify and unify efforts so as to face the continued decrease in local fish, mainly Zubaidi, grouper and squid.

She urged bodies and authorities to preserve marine environment, asking both citizens and residents to stop overfishing and destroying marine environment.
