KUWAIT CITY, Oct 13: The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to ten-year imprisonment with hard labor, and a Jordanian and Egyptian expatriate to four-year imprisonment each with hard labor. The three suspects were accused of supporting and declaring allegiance to DAESH. The court instead sentenced the citizen to four-year imprisonment with hard labor and acquitted the expatriates of all charges.

According to the case file, the citizen had written and published about the rights of the Amir and his authority on a public platform. The trio called for the overthrowing of the ruling system in Kuwait and distributed pamphlets in mosques as well as publicly called for embracing thoughts with the aim of destroying the basic systems of Kuwait illegally and rebelling against the state apparatus.

The Jordanian expatriate was accused of participating with the citizen by distributing the pamphlets in mosques in order to recruit youth to the banned group under the pretext that it was a call for Jihad. The Egyptian expatriate was accused of printing the pamphlets and helping in its distribution.

Meanwhile, in another case, the Court of Appeals refrained from punishing six minors accused of robbing a Pakistani expatriate at knifepoint. The court ordered the accused to pay KD 200 bail bond and sign an undertaking of good conduct for one year.

The court indicated all six accused had actually snatched an unspecified sum and two mobile phones from the victim after one of them threatened him with a knife.
