49ers’ Kelly not interested in ‘returning’ to college ranks
Fisher might still return in 2017
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 1, (RTRS): San Francisco 49ers coach Chip Kelly reiterated Wednesday he has no intention of returning to the college ranks.
When asked if he plans to stay with the struggling 49ers (1-10), Kelly was quick with his answer.
“Yep. So we’re all done with that, I hope,” the 53-year-old Kelly said, via CSNBayArea.com.
Kelly then shook his head and said “no” when asked if there was any chance he would become Oregon’s next head coach.
The topic of conversation heated up on the heels of Ducks athletic director Rob Mullens announcing Tuesday night the dismissal of head coach Mark Helfrich after four seasons.
Kelly posted a 46-7 mark with Oregon from 2009-12 before venturing off to the NFL to coach the Philadelphia Eagles.
Los Angeles Rams coach Jeff Fisher, in the final year of his current five-year deal, might still return in 2017 despite a 4-7 record this season.
Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff said it is not fair to judge Fisher only on the team’s record.
“We moved halfway across the country, then had OTAs in Oxnard. Training camp was in Irvine, now we’re in Thousand Oaks. We moved coaches and players and families. To provide leadership and consistency, he’s done a model job,” Demoff told Steve Wyche of NFL.com.
The Rams moved back to Los Angeles during the offseason after relocating from St. Louis, where Fisher had four losing seasons. He has a 31-43-1 record in four-plus seasons with the Rams.
The Miami Dolphins released defensive tackle Leon Orr on Wednesday after finding out he was arrested the day before on charges of possessing marijuana and a controlled substance.
Dolphins coach Adam Gase told reporters the team got word of the arrest during Wednesday’s practice and immediately cut Orr.
“We’re in the middle of the season. We have priorities and this is the No. 1 priority,” Gase said. “If guys have other priorities, they can go about their business somewhere else.”
The Detroit Lions re-signed linebacker Brandon Chubb to their practice squad.
Chubb returns to Detroit after originally being signed to the practice squad on Oct 18 before he was released Monday.
He entered the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams earlier this season as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Wake Forest and later joined the Rams’ practice squad at the beginning of the regular season before being released on Sept 12.
Fox Sports has become the newest broadcast partner for the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, the NFL Players Association announced Wednesday. The multi-year agreement will begin with the sixth annual game on Jan. 21, 2017. The contest will be played at StubHub Center on the campus of California State in greater Los Angeles.
Seahawks quarterback Trevone Boykin, Chargers linebacker Jatavis Brown and Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley previously competed in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, a game for NFL drafteligible college players.
