Osama Essa Al-Shaheen
OSAMA AL-SHAHEEN was born in 1979 and holds a Master’s Degree in Law from Kuwait University. He worked as a lawyer in the Fatwa and Legislation Department of the Cabinet. He was a member of the 2012 annulled Parliament and one of the opposition figures who boycotted the 2013 parliamentary election.
In the 2016 parliamentary election, Al-Shaheen won eighth place in his constituency with 2,270 votes ahead of his rival Khalid Al-Shatti who got 2,166 votes.
He is a member of the Islamic Constitutional Movement (ICM) and the opposition. The ICM shunned ministerial posts but was part of the meeting before the National Assembly’s opening ceremony on Feb 15, 2012 which resulted in the majority’s request for nine Cabinet portfolios. At the time, Al-Shaheen said the ICM will fully cooperate with the government on reform and development issues.
During his term in the annulled Parliament, Al-Shaheen joined the Response to the Amiri Address and Public Utilities permanent committees.

Before the 2012 parliamentary election, Al-Shaheen spoke at a symposium for female voters in the First Constituency, stressing that Kuwaitis, by nature and as per their religion, respect all segments of society, honor women, appreciate the family and care about children and human rights in general.
“Throughout history, Kuwaiti women never lived a marginalized life as they play leading roles in the community, in education and in nurturing generations,” he asserted.
He pointed out Kuwaitis have never been unfair to women who work side by side their male counterparts in serving the interests of society. He affirmed support for the rights of women, stressing these rights are protected by Islam and the country’s values. He emphasized the need to protect these values and confront any threat to national identity. H e also unveiled his plan to urge the National Assembly to enact laws aimed at providing women with the best education, health and social care services; in addition to protecting the rights of children and the family in general.
